Do you remember that time when President Obama announced ICE raids prior to them happening so illegal immigrants could hide? Me neither. How about that time when far-left radicals and mainstream media literally wept over deportations under the Obama administration? Nope, it didn’t happen. But as ICE prepares to raid and deport criminal illegal immigrants, it seems as if the White House is doing everything the left wants other than stopping the raids altogether.
I’m sorry if this offends anyone, but this is absolutely ridiculous. President Obama, for all his shortcomings, had no problem deporting more illegal immigrants than any other president in history. His worst quarterly numbers are on par with the best numbers that have come from ICE since President Trump took office. While I agree there are major problems with illegal immigration that President Trump is trying to handle, there is no reason for his administration to announce raids as warning to the criminal illegal immigrants and to appease the Democrats.
Just raid and deport. There’s no need to apologize. There’s no need to warn anybody.
According to some of those talking to Fox News, this is some sort of 4D Chess in which the politics behind the raid are greater than the need to deport these illegal immigrants, many of whom are dangerous. ALL of them will have been properly adjudicated with removal orders filed. This isn’t going to be a bunch of law enforcement thugs looking for anyone who appears to be Hispanic. This is the righteous and properly coordinated actions of a highly qualified and professional law enforcement agency, ICE.
We need to let them do their job. Instead, we’re playing politics:
So why are the raids being publicized days in advance?
“It’s unprecedented. But there is a political purpose behind it,” Thomas Kilbride, a retired Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agent and ICE policy adviser, told Fox News. He said the president has tried to get Democrats to come to the table because asylum laws need to change, and this is a way to bargain.
Other experts have underscored that Trump’s announcements are something of a gesture – and not something that the administration was under any legal obligation to do.
“The main point here is that the Trump administration is trying to circumvent some of the blowback from the other side of the aisle. It sends the message that these people have been notified to self-deport and if they fail to do that, this might happen,” said Steve Bucci, homeland security expert at the Heritage Foundation. “It is saying that we aren’t monsters, what we are doing is in accordance with the law and in a reasonable fashion.
“Past administrations didn’t announce raids because they didn’t have to, they just did them.”
Yet the heads-up also means that many may have left the addresses known to DHS in the weeks since the raids were first trumpeted, further hindering their effectiveness.
I’m not buying that the announcement/warning was necessary. It’s not beneficial to ICE. It won’t make Democrats happy. They’re not going to come knocking on the Oval Office door begging to make a deal and change asylum laws to stop the raids from happening. If anything, they’re going to be out in force trying to capture the most heart-wrenching story of little Johnny watching his poor dad get dragged away by ICE agents. And that will be the story they tell. They won’t discuss the crimes committed by the people being deported, nor will they mention anyone harmed by the illegal immigrants themselves. Little Johnny is going to be the story, and it’ll be a much easier story to find now that the White House has told everyone when the raids are taking place.
If one illegal immigrant gets deported, there will be negative press coverage on it. Democrats will literally cry over the “inhumane” treatment. We need to stop trying to appease anyone and let ICE do their jobs unhindered.
