The gun debate has been waged on three fronts for decades. It’s always concentrated in Washington DC. It sometimes finds its way to state capitals. It occasionally pops up in local jurisdictions. This is the exact opposite order of how we should be defending the 2nd Amendment.
This isn’t just an ideological push for federalism. We’re seeing limited action in Washington DC when it comes to guns, bump stock ban aside. Meanwhile, states are cracking down on their gun laws in ways that should make gun owners truly concerned.
Here are some recent examples:
- States are taking gun laws into their own hands in 2019 as experts predict a “stalemate” in Congress
- New gun law in NJ just made all of us less safe
- Wash. bans anyone under 21 from buying rifles
- New Maryland red-flag gun law results in 302 protective orders, 5 involving schools
- Va. governor announces plans for new gun laws
- New Illinois gun laws restricting access take effect next week
- Bill would require permits to buy guns, limit ammunition in Oregon
- California implements stricter gun laws
The writing is on the wall. The crackdown on guns is coming in many forms from the horrid red flag gun laws to the squeeze being placed on clip capacity across the nation. They’re getting people nodding in agreement on intensifying background checks. They’re using buzzwords like “common sense” gun safety. All along, they’re pushing America one town, county, and state at a time towards national laws in the future.
This is all a precursor to actual direct and unambiguous gun confiscations. That’s how trends like these turn. They ease in with basic changes to background checks, accessories, and ammunition. They move towards weapon classification. Then, they’ll go for the firearms themselves. It’s the legislative creeping of gun “discussions” that will inevitably turn to outright war against the 2nd Amendment itself.
They know the 2nd Amendment is clear, which is why they are moving steadily towards normalizing the discussion around keeping people safer. That’s the only way they’ll be able to win their ultimate goal, a Constitutional Amendment that limits or outright removes the 2nd Amendment altogether.
This isn’t just a political battle. It’s a cultural battle for hearts and minds. They’ve been playing the long game for some time on this issue, indoctrinating students to the progressive ideology, manipulating the masses through propaganda in the media, and using clever doublespeak in town halls, state capitol buildings, and Capitol Hill so they can keep us all in the dark about it.
The battle for the 2nd Amendment must be fought, for now, at the local and state level. This is where we have a real chance of slowing the process. Simultaneously, we need to work towards educating the people about the true motives and end results of the left’s activities against the 2nd Amendment. This may seem challenging with mainstream media parroting progressive talking points, but it can be done. We have to believe that. It’s one of the reasons NOQ Report is here in the first place. It’s why we desperately need your help.
If we don’t slow down the degradation of our rights at the local and state level, we’ll be ill-prepared to fight the battle in Washington DC when it finally reaches the national level. Our influence on those around us is greater than it is on DC itself.
