One leftist is trying to rebrand diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) as a badge of honor and admitted something the legacy media has often been keen to deny.
Christina Blacken, founder of a “leadership development and behavior change training company,” The New Quo, wrote a July 30 op-ed for The HuffPost titled with a stunning admission. “Kamala Harris Would Be A DEI President,” the title read, adding, “And That’s A Good Thing For America.” In her article, Blacken distorted what DEI is and embraced popular smears against DEI opponents. She even claimed that DEI creates a type of meritocracy, somehow.
The legacy media has viciously lashed out at people who label Vice President Kamala Harris as a “DEI-hire,” calling it “clearly racist” and denouncing supposed “outright racism.” This is despite the fact that in 2020 Biden made it clear that he would put unchosen characteristics over qualifications when he promised to solely consider women for his vice presidential pick. The Washington Post, Politico, NPR, The Associated Press, CNN and other outlets acknowledged the pressure to prioritize race and gender.
Bracken, who called Harris a potential “DEI President” in her title, bristled at anyone on the right who dared to acknowledge this. “[T]hey cast Harris as a DEI candidate to simultaneously discredit her accomplishments while quietly dog-whistling to their brood.”
Ludicrously, Blacken casts DEI initiatives as a pursuit of meritocracy: “[A] world where true merit and capability, across demographic backgrounds, are considered.” To be clear, this is a woman who promotes DEI, which puts unchosen characteristics like race and gender above considerations like merit.
