The brave Marine veteran who stopped a career criminal from terrorizing passengers on a New York City subway car turned himself in Friday in lower Manhattan.
District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office said 24-year-old Marine veteran Daniel Penny has been charged with second-degree manslaughter. Fox News reports prosecutors are “expected to ask for significant bail.”
Penny put Jordan Neely in a chokehold after the homeless man terrorized passengers on board a northbound F train on May 1.
Neely had a lengthy criminal record – more than 40 charges – and at the time of his death there was a warrant for his arrest on an assault charge.Attorneys for Penny offered “condolences to those close to Mr. Neely” and claimed, “Mr. Neely began aggressively threatening Daniel,” and that the Marine veteran and others “acted to protect themselves.” Attorney Steven M.
