Deportation is a touchy subject in America today. Much of that is because it’s an action that’s very misunderstood by the public. When the President Tweeted last week that ICE would start removing “millions” of people this week, many progressives started chanting about “deportation squads.”
That’s not what this is about. During the 2016 election, the President often talked about deporting all illegal immigrants. He softened at times, saying we need to deport criminal illegal immigrants, and that’s starting to get done. But now the leftist media is saying he’s ordering ICE to deport everyone.
He’s not. He’s calling on ICE to work with local law enforcement to locate people who have removal orders. This is an important distinction. This doesn’t represent the tens of millions of illegal immigrants in our country. It’s the people who have had their day in court (whether they chose to attend or not) and have been properly adjudicated for removal.
This means all the people who have evaded federal officers after being legally bound for removal. It means locating the 90% of migrants in recent months who crossed illegally, filed for asylum, and never showed up to their hearing.
Let’s put this into perspective. Those who righteously seek asylum, attend their hearing as ordered, and are granted asylum will not be removed. The orders are specifically for those who initially broke our laws by crossing over outside of a designated port of entry, then broke the law again by disappearing into the interior without attending their own hearing. There is no way to tell what they are doing now, but it’s conspicuous that they came for asylum, then decided they no longer wanted to pursue asylum once they were able to be released to the interior.
This does not represent people who are fleeing oppression. This represents people who want aid and prosperity but are not willing to do the basic task of showing up for their hearing. They want the benefits of America without a willingness to abide by basic laws. This is dangerous and counterproductive to the advancement of our nation.
Dale Wilcox from the Immigration Reform Law Institute told OAN’s Graham Ledger, “If our immigration system is to have any integrity at all, the President has to enforce these removal orders.” He’s absolutely right.
