Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem caught fire while Notre-Dame cathedral was burning

On just about any other day, a fire breaking out at the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem would be big news, but not when it was a minor blaze at the same time the historic Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris was a devastating inferno.

The fire occurred at the Marwani Prayer Room located underneath the southeastern corner of the Temple Mount. Sheikh Azzam al-Khatib, director general of the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, told Jordan’s Al-Mamlaka TV that the fire broke out in the courtyard. Reports indicate children are believed to have inadvertently started the fire. It was extinguished quickly by the local fire department.

Even though the fire was contained quickly, it’s significant that two of the most revered religious buildings in the world were on fire at the same time.

Impeachment is actually about winning the Senate

Impeachment is actually about winning the Senate

One of the prevailing theories we and others have been assuming based on the Democrats’ incessant push for impeachment of President Trump is to act as a smokescreen so the media won’t focus on actual issues such as the border crisis or the investigations into the investigators. Both are much bigger stories, among others, than the continuation of the Russia collusion hoax, but Democrats know their lapdogs in the mainstream media will continuing parroting their talking points.

But there’s another reason they’re not only talking about impeachment, but why the Democrats might actually follow through with their threats. They want to push impeachment proceedings to the Senate where it will almost certainly fail. When it does, this will be the rallying cry the use in Senatorial elections in 2020.

This information comes from an anonymous source, and while I hate using anonymous sources, it seemed too important to pass up.

Are there enough Senate voters who would make their decision next November based on the ability of Congress to go after the President? It seems illogical; a failed impeachment means the chances of putting together a second vote, should the President win reelection, are essentially zero unless they can stir up completely different charges. But it really comes down to perceived protections from the Republican-controlled Senate, protections that the Democrats want to point to as the reason why impeachment will fail.

An impossible scenario could only be used to mislead the masses if they are willfully uninformed. And that’s exactly what Democrats are banking on in 2020.

Editor’s Note: I also hate the use of anonymous sources, but this story has been allowed since it is a theory that doesn’t implicate anyone directly.

OTC birth control: An issue radicals on both sides can (almost) agree on

OTC birth control An issue radicals on both sides can almost agree on

There are few issues in which the far-right and far-left normally agree. But one issue in particular makes so much sense, one has to wonder why those in the mushy middle are so opposed to it. The issue is over-the-counter birth control, and the solution is simple: allow it.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) are in near-agreement on an issue for the second time in two weeks. Both sides want birth control easily acceptable, and others are joining in on the bipartisanship.

The only issue seems to be cost. Cruz wants a “clean and simple bill” while Democrats are pushing for full funding, either mandated in healthcare plans, cost-subsidized by the government, or both. This is, of course, a huge sticking point as it’s very unlikely many Republicans would vote for subsidies or mandates and it’s unlikely Democrats would vote for a bill that excluded them.

It seems bipartisanship stops at the wallet.

As Beth Baumann noted at Town Hall, this impasse isn’t new.

Republicans introduced a bill back in 2014 that would make birth control available over-the-counter. They didn’t include a provision that required health insurance to cover it though. And that was an issue for Democrats.

Pressley’s bill would make birth control available over-the-counter, without a prescription from a doctor, but there would be a requirement for health insurance to pay for it.

These are two separate issues. Making birth control available over-the-counter should happen with or without the insurance mandate. Then, the can debate funding for birth control in a future healthcare debate. There’s no need to keep it locked behind the counter while politicians debate costs. Availability and cost are completely different aspects that shouldn’t be tied together by artificial bonds.

It’s ironic far-left Democrats are holding birth control access hostage while pushing to add health insurance mandates. One might start wondering if they really care about women’s rights outside of the political implications.

American citizens first: Why Ron DeSantis signed Florida sanctuary city ban

American citizens first Why Ron DeSantis signed Florida sanctuary city ban

The critics are already out in full force, many of whom are trying to legally attack the new sanctuary city law signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. But as the smoke clears from the signing of the law, the motives behind it are not being discussed by those who oppose it.

As the end of the day, it comes down to putting American citizens first, a notion that seems to be anathema to the left.

According to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, “It absolutely gives us the ability to partner with federal law enforcement agencies to make sure we’re doing everything we can to fight illegal immigration.”

In the response by the sheriff, we get to see the heart of the matter: partnership. Law enforcement has demonstrated time and time again when there’s cooperation, information sharing, trust, and coordination, the whole becomes greater than the sum of the parts. The bad guys want nothing more than for law enforcement agencies to stop working together. It makes it easier to evade capture and continue breaking the law when agencies in a sanctuary city defy orders from federal law enforcement, including ICE.

Critics argue that illegal immigrants are not the “bad guys,” but as I’ve covered on this site ad nauseum, there is no shortage of very bad people coming into our country illegally and continuing to do their deeds. Many of them have received protection from sanctuary cities. This must be put to an end.

The Governor invoked the standard talking points about the new law, but it really does come down to a compassionate appreciation of the plight of people who want to be in this country that is rightly superseded by the safety of American citizens.

Stopping sanctuary cities is not about punishing immigrants, as the Democrats like to claim. It’s about keeping American citizens, legal immigrants, and even most illegal immigrants safe from the criminal aliens living here.
