Whether Lucy Flores’s story is true or not (it probably is knowing what we know about Creepy Joe) doesn’t really make a difference. It’s just fuel for a fire that was already growing, a fire that was destined to remove former Vice President Joe Biden from the 2020 election equation. Biden knew it, which is why he’s been subtly catering to the whims of the threat for a while. What is the fire? It’s the New Democratic Party, aka the hyper-leftists, aka the radical progressives.
It’s the party in which Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez really is “the boss” and relics like Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer are operating on borrowed time.
It’s the party where Senators Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Cory Booker try to one-up each other in their lurch to the left.
It’s the party where Beto O’Rourke has ventured into the realm of unhinged communist as he throws anything he can have thought for him against the wall in hopes that it sticks.
This is no longer Joe Biden’s party. It’s a party that doesn’t really want his brand of “moderate” policies muddying the socialist waters. I put “moderate” in quotes because a decade ago, Biden wouldn’t have been considered a moderate. Today, he’s practically right-leaning compared to his comrades.
It’s sad, really, because he blew his opportunity by being polite (or whatever his motivation was) and not challenging Hillary Clinton for the 2016 nomination. Had he done so, there’s a chance he could be President today. He certainly would have done better than Clinton did in the 2016 election, possibly well enough to defeat President Trump. We’ll never know because at this stage, it seems highly unlikely he’ll be able to make a serious run despite leading in the polls. One thing to remember about early polls like these is someone with Biden’s name recognition will fair very well before he announces a run. If he were to announce, his numbers would quickly spike, then drop like a rock.
It isn’t just because of Flores. His real issue is he’s still associated with the old Democratic Party. While President Obama remains extremely popular as his legacy grows, the shine of his star power isn’t enough to elevate Biden to the status of heir apparent. That would have been the case in 2016, but now he’s just another Democrat from a bygone era who isn’t woke enough to carry the torch. That mantle belongs to Sanders following Clinton’s defeat, but unfortunately for Sanders he may not have enough gas in the tank to carry it to the finish line. The young folks gunning for his mantle are a real threat to steal it from him the moment he demonstrates weakness.
All of this leaves Biden as a afterthought when it comes time for the radical base to hit the primary boxes.
Joe Biden didn’t leave the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party left him. But unlike Ronald Reagan, there’s really no room in the Republican Party for Biden, either. His future is to live out his days without a presidential nomination.
