We normally focus on modern quotes that can be found in the current news cycle, but occasionally we find quotes that are so relevant, they must be remembered and applied to today’s world. Such is the case of a great quote from Charles Spurgeon who had a grand understanding of the realities of the world.
In particular, his description of how truth and lies travel at different speeds is remarkably relevant in today’s world of real-time coverage on demand and an incessantly biased media that spreads falsehoods on their front page before correcting themselves a few days later on page 10.
“If you want truth to go round the world you must hire an express train to pull it; but if you want a lie to go round the world, it will fly; it is as light as a feather, and a breath will carry it.”
It turned out to be much more than a campaign pitch. #FakeNews is a real phenomenon. We’re seeing it every day, especially as it pertains to President Trump. Some good, some bad, but much of it is fake regardless of which way it leans.
