Wild eyed Mitch McConnell is fired up for Brett Kavanaugh

Published

on

Whether you like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell or not, he was in his best form today addressing the Senate in defense of Brett Kavanaugh. He defended the Supreme Court nominee’s own fiery responses in last week’s hearings by pointing out how Democrats had shifted from attacking him as a sexual predator to questioning his qualifications because of his heated responses to their questions.

“We have a chance to do good here and to underscore the basic tenet of fairness in our country,” he said before declaring that he filed cloture.

McConnell may be too moderate and conciliatory to the Democrats as Senate Majority Leader, but his strengths were on display today as he made a firm defense for confirming Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

Immortalising terrorism with gun confiscation will only result in more terrorism

Immortalising terrorism with gun confiscation will only result in more terrorism

Is it fair to punish the innocent for the crimes of the guilty?

Word has it that Jacinda Ardern the Prime Minister of New Zealand will immediately punish millions of innocent people with the taking of their property – at effective gunpoint no less. The plan is to grab the guns first and legislate later. Being that this is exactly what the terrorist wanted, it is the wrong thing to do from a practical and moral standpoint.

Practical because as the miscreant stated, it could have used any number of means to kill people. It is immoral because millions of innocent people will have to pay the price for its insane actions. They will not only be deprived of their property, but they will be left helpless in the face of criminals and terrorists who by definition do not comply with the law.

Why is tyranny quick to exploit a tragedy?

The Prime Minister had stated that previous attempts at depriving the people of their human rights failed to gain any traction. This time in the midst of the raw emotions of the moment the government took quick action to avoid any thoughtful deliberation on this extremely important civil rights question.

If they had contemplated this oppressive action over time, they would have realized that it won’t have the intended result. This will only embolden those who use terrorism to further their goals. This misguided action will only serve to encourage others to attain their own bit of ‘fame’ with these kinds of horrific acts.

As reported in USA Today, In her announcement of the ban and confiscation edict, the Prime Minister of New Zealand forwarded the bizarre presumption that somehow the government was the original owner of these weapons with the line: “We just want the guns back”.

Later on, in the same article, they reported on the statement she had made last Tuesday that

she would deny the man responsible for the nation’s worst terror attack in modern history the one thing he likely craved: fame.

This misguided action by the Prime Minister will have the opposite effect. What better way to gain infamy that to be the reason why millions of people will be deprived of their property and civil rights. This confiscation action will now enshrine the perpetrator of this crime in the history books. This is what happens when someone acts first and thinks later.

Immortalizing a criminal

The miscreant who perpetrated this crime will now be rewarded with exactly what it desired – being immortalized in the history books as the one who caused millions to lose their civil rights.  New Zealand already had strict limitations on Liberty and yet this did nothing to stop this crime from taking place. What will they do the next time around? Take away any remaining firearms in the country? Make no mistake, this will only cause more terrorism and division.

Socialists Bernie Sanders acted quickly to exploit on this serious crisis for political gain with a call for a ‘ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons in the United States.’ While Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez applauded this major denigration of Liberty.

The Takeaway

Leftist often parrot lines about ‘fairness’, ’equality’ and democracy, but this action shows that those are but mere window dressing. They will quickly jettison those precepts when the opportunity to exploit a serious crisis presents itself.

There should be no doubt that more of the Liberty grabber Left in the states will see this ‘progress’ as inspiration to call for gun confiscation as they have far too many times in the past. It will also ‘inspire’ would be terrorists to try to obtain this kind of result in other places. Instead of doing something about terrorism, it will encourage it while endangering the innocent.

Ben Shapiro on a divided America

Ben Shapiro on a divided America

The extreme polarization that has taken over political discourse in our nation is clear and palatable. Notions of bipartisanship in DC or common courtesy at events have been tossed aside, replaced by vitriol so putrid, only the bravest gluttons venture forth into “enemy” territory while most stay isolated in their ideological echo chambers reaffirming their biases and remaining blind to any hint of fault in their chosen leaders.

This is a new phenomenon, at least for the modern era. It wasn’t too long ago when there were certain areas of disagreement, but even in those disagreements we could find common ground. Those days seem to be behind us.

In his new book, “”The Right Side of History: How Reason and Moral Purpose Made the West Great,” DailyWire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro explores much of what has caused this divide. In a nation where radical progressivism has replaced common sense Democratic notions, it’s understandable how this divide has been so easily maintained with the current and previous Presidents. Shapiro points to the statistics surrounding this divide in his book:

“We’re more divided than at any time in the recent past. In July 2017, Pew Research found that 68 percent of Democrats said it was “stressful and frustrating” to talk to political opponents; 52 percent of Republicans agreed.”

Forget Washington; the threat to the Electoral College lies with the states

Forget Washington the threat to the Electoral College lies with the states

At the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, crowds anxiously waited outside Independence Hall to find out what kind of government had been created for America.

According to a diary entry by James McHenry, a signer of the Constitution, Benjamin Franklin gave them the answer. Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia asked Franklin, “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?” Franklin replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.”

Whenever you hear a politician refer to America as a “democracy,” they’re showing their ignorance of our founding. The Founding Fathers created a republic — loosely translated to mean “the public things,” or “the laws” — instead of a democracy where the majority rules. In short, our Constitution ensures a government of laws and not of men, a republic and not a democracy.

The wisdom of their creation is clear: a republic ensures everyone has a voice while a democracy allows the mob to do as it wishes. Nowhere is this clearer than when we elect the president and vice president using the Electoral College (EC).

Unfortunately, there is renewed interest in seeing the EC repealed, to be replaced by a majority rule popular vote. Over the past week, Democrat candidates for president Elizabeth Warren, Beto O’Rourke, and Kamala Harris have come out in favor of getting rid of the EC.

Fortunately, eliminating the EC is impossible without amending the Constitution. Unfortunately, politicians rarely let the Constitution get in the way of advancing their self-interested agenda.

For example, while those in the national political scene spin the idea to primarily garner money and votes, a growing movement at the state level of government has been successful in creating a “work around” to the EC that could survive a court challenge.

Known as the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, an agreement among a group of US states and the District of Columbia would award their Electoral Votes to the presidential candidate who wins the national popular vote, regardless of who won each state.

Colorado recently joined 11 other states and the District of Columbia, bringing the number of electoral votes at stake to 181 — a mere 89 votes short of the 270 necessary to win the presidency.

While there are those who claim this is unconstitutional, the reality is there are no Constitutional provisions or federal laws requiring Electors to vote for the winner in their states.

Of course, Trump and the GOP are adding the Electoral College debate to their list of #notDemocrat reasons to support them in 2020. But an old tweet from 2012 shows Trump criticizing the Electoral College, calling it a “disaster for democracy.”

Yeah, I know, Trumpists will write this off as old news and point to his current soft support of the EC. However, he was pushing to see it repealed as recently as a year ago because the popular vote would be “easier to win.” Considering his political schizophrenia, who knows where he stands on the issue today or where he’ll stand on it tomorrow?

Amending the Constitution to eliminate the Electoral College seems very unlikely, but the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is close to becoming a reality. Conservatives need to get involved at the state and local levels of government if they want to see it stopped.
