Cloud security is a joke. It has been since the cloud itself was first envisioned. Now that there are hundreds of clouds of data out there ripe fro the picking by cyber criminals, Oracle has a security solution.
In theory, it’s brilliant. In reality, it’s much scarier than anything we’ve ever seen in cyber warfare.
Here’s the positive spin:
Oracle is building a robot army to protect data
“Clouds, [and the] modern cloud is constantly under attack by what are called botnets,” Oracle Executive Chairman Larry Ellison said during an exclusive interview with FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo Opens a New Window. on Friday. “Some are state actors, some are individual cyber criminals and we’re building modern robotic defenses to protect our customers’ data.”
In Ellison’s opinion, the only way to “patch databases in a timely fashion” is by fully automating.
Before we go much further, it’s important to understand that these are not really “robots” that Oracle is describing, at least not the way most people perceive them. These are automated protocols that use what is called “machine learning” to recognize a problem, diagnose it, and treat it with the most effective countermeasure available at the moment. These will be less like robots and much more like automated doctors.
This all sounds like forward progress against cyber criminals. Here’s the thing. If it’s bad enough that we need “robots” to protect us, then eventually the “robots” on the other side will be stronger. In the cyber warfare world, it is easier to attack than to defend.
If, on the other hand, it’s not bad enough that we need “robots” but we’re getting them anyway, just in case, then these “robots” are what could eventually lead to our own demise.
It’s easy for people to push aside fears of extremely complicated futuristic concepts like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, or a combination of the two. We generally ignore things we don’t understand and the vast majority of people don’t understand any of these things very well. We may hear an occasional warning from famous people like Stephen Hawking or Elon Musk, but it all seems like a distant challenge others will have to deal with.
It’s not. It’s now.
When the gatekeepers, such as these “robots,” are tied into the power of quantum computing and the decision making abilities of artificial intelligent, the potential for intentional or inadvertent technological chaos suddenly becomes high.
Covid variant BA.5 is spreading. It appears milder but much more contagious and evades natural immunity. Best to boost your immune system with new Z-Dtox and Z-Stack nutraceuticals from our dear friend, the late Dr. Vladimir Zelenko.
