The Rockingham County School Board passed a new policy that makes the American flag the predominant flag in classrooms. The gay pride flag and flags from other nations will no longer be permitted.
The school board chairman says he wants students to be proud to be Americans and to honor Old Glory.
“We want the American flag to be the predominant flag seen by all of our students. We want our students to be proud to be Americans and for those same emotions to rise up within them that rise up inside many of us when they stand to honor our nation’s flag, with their shoulders squared and their right hand covering their heart, giving thanks to God for those brave men and women who have given their lives for our great nation,” board chairman Matt Cross told television station WHSV.
