The UK government is attempting to keep valuable information regarding its response to the COVID-19 pandemic out of the public eye. Government ministers are by refusing to provide the UK’s COVID Inquiry with messages sent at the time, raising suspicions over impropriety.
The government has until Monday to provide the information, or take legal action against the inquiry to suppress the release of hundreds of messages sent between government authorities at the time.
Lady Heather Hallett, chairman of the inquiry, has warned that failing to comply with the order to provide the “ unredacted messages ” would amount to a criminal offence, punishable with a fine, or even imprisonment.
