A 39-year-old woman who was sexually abused by her stepfather for years as a child has been awarded $2.28 billion by the Riverside Superior Court in a criminal case that also named the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints , Los Angeles Times reports .
According to court documents , the woman who is referred to as “Jane Doe” was sexually abused by her stepfather from the ages of 5 to 14, and named her mother as complicit. The assaults, which led to the plaintiff to be “on the brink of suicide,” occurred at their family home on Lake Elsinore and at their local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints property, the lawsuit said.
