(Daily Caller)—Republican Gov. Mike DeWine of Ohio received thousands of dollars in donations from donors who provided transgender medical services or opposed efforts to ban the procedures for minors.
DeWine vetoed House Bill 68 on Friday, which would have prohibited doctors from prescribing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors and banned boys from competing in girls’ sports, just hours before the deadline. A review of donations from 2018 to 2023 found that the governor received $40,300 from the Ohio Children’s Hospital Association (OCHA), Cincinnati Children’s, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and ProMedica Children’s Hospital, all of whom support transgender medical care.
OCHA donated $10,000 to the Mike DeWine and Jon Husted Transition Fund on Dec. 28, 2018, and another $10,000 on Dec. 7, 2022, according to the report. A transition fund allows candidates to spend donations for “transition activities and inaugural celebrations,” according to Ohio’s campaign finance handbook.
Cincinnati Children’s, an affiliate of OCHA, donated $300 on Dec. 15, 2022, to the fund and ProMedica, another affiliate of OCHA, also donated $10,000 in December 2018, according to the reports. Nationwide Children’s, a third affiliate with OCHA, donated $5,000 in December 2018 and another $5,000 in January 2023 to the transition fund.
The governor’s office referred the Daily Caller News Foundation back to DeWine’s comments on the bill and his veto. DeWine said last week that he was visiting hospitals that provide transgender procedures to hear families out on both sides of the issue but did not elaborate on which hospitals he went to.
Nick Lashutka, president of the OHCA, testified against House Bill 68, arguing that the bill “strips away” the rights of parents and their transgender children, according to The Guardian.

ProMedica, a member of The Ohio Children's Hospital Association and the largest hospital chain in Ohio also gave DeWine $10,000.

“These youth existed before we established our gender clinics, and they will exist if our clinics are forced to close,” Lashutka said.
A spokesperson for OCHA reiterated to the DCNF that DeWine visited with “clinicians and patient families of Ohio’s children’s hospitals.” The spokesperson also included a statement from Lashutka on the governor’s veto.
“We are thankful for Governor DeWine’s thoughtful approach in thoroughly researching the issue of gender-affirming care and vetoing Sub HB 68 today,” Lashutka said. “We welcome the opportunity to work with the Governor, the Ohio General Assembly and relevant state agencies to ensure Ohio’s youth have access to the critical care they need while also addressing concerns raised during debate on HB 68.”
Cincinnati Children’s has a Transgender Health Center that works with patients from five to 24 years old, according to the hospital’s website. The center’s frequently asked questions section explains that patients can get puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones with family consent and does not list an age limit.
Dr. Patty Manning-Courtney, the hospital’s chief of staff, also testified against House Bill 68, claiming that the impact of the bill would be “felt deeply and dangerously.”
Nationwide Children’s THRIVE Gender Development Program lists “management of gender-affirming medications, inclusive sexual and reproductive health care, menstrual management and other affirming interventions” as well as “fertility preservation options, puberty blockers or gender-affirming medicines” as services they provide, according to its website. The hospital does not note the age a patient must be to receive care from the program.
In 2021, ProMedica created an LGBTQ+ Patient and Family Advisory Council to educate healthcare providers on how to be more inclusive of the LGBTQ community, according to the Buckeye Flame, a local media outlet. The hospital said that the council was part of a larger goal to better include transgender patients and help refer them to medical facilities that can provide them with any care that ProMedica cannot.
A ProMedica spokesperson told the DCNF that the donations took place under “different leadership in place at the time.”
Cincinnati Children’s and Nationwide Children’s did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Five Things New “Preppers” Forget When Getting Ready for Bad Times Ahead
The preparedness community is growing faster than it has in decades. Even during peak times such as Y2K, the economic downturn of 2008, and Covid, the vast majority of Americans made sure they had plenty of toilet paper but didn’t really stockpile anything else.
Things have changed. There’s a growing anxiety in this presidential election year that has prompted more Americans to get prepared for crazy events in the future. Some of it is being driven by fearmongers, but there are valid concerns with the economy, food supply, pharmaceuticals, the energy grid, and mass rioting that have pushed average Americans into “prepper” mode.
There are degrees of preparedness. One does not have to be a full-blown “doomsday prepper” living off-grid in a secure Montana bunker in order to be ahead of the curve. In many ways, preparedness isn’t about being able to perfectly handle every conceivable situation. It’s about being less dependent on government for as long as possible. Those who have proper “preps” will not be waiting for FEMA to distribute emergency supplies to the desperate masses.
Below are five things people new to preparedness (and sometimes even those with experience) often forget as they get ready. All five are common sense notions that do not rely on doomsday in order to be useful. It may be nice to own a tank during the apocalypse but there’s not much you can do with it until things get really crazy. The recommendations below can have places in the lives of average Americans whether doomsday comes or not.

Secured Wealth
Whether in the bank or held in a retirement account, most Americans feel that their life’s savings is relatively secure. At least they did until the last couple of years when de-banking, geopolitical turmoil, and the threat of Central Bank Digital Currencies reared their ugly heads.
It behooves Americans to diversify their holdings. If there’s a triggering event or series of events that cripple the financial systems or devalue the U.S. Dollar, wealth can evaporate quickly. To hedge against potential turmoil, many Americans are looking in two directions: Crypto and physical precious metals.
There are huge advantages to cryptocurrencies, but there are also inherent risks because “virtual” money can become challenging to spend. Add in the push by central banks and governments to regulate or even replace cryptocurrencies with their own versions they control and the risks amplify. There’s nothing wrong with cryptocurrencies today but things can change rapidly.
As for physical precious metals, many Americans pay cash to keep plenty on hand in their safe. Rolling over or transferring retirement accounts into self-directed IRAs is also a popular option, but there are caveats. It can often take weeks or even months to get the gold and silver shipped if the owner chooses to close their account. This is why Genesis Gold Group stands out. Their relationship with the depositories allows for rapid closure and shipping, often in less than 10 days from the time the account holder makes their move. This can come in handy if things appear to be heading south.
Lots of Potable Water
One of the biggest shocks that hit new preppers is understanding how much potable water they need in order to survive. Experts claim one gallon of water per person per day is necessary. Even the most conservative estimates put it at over half-a-gallon. That means that for a family of four, they’ll need around 120 gallons of water to survive for a month if the taps turn off and the stores empty out.
Being near a fresh water source, whether it’s a river, lake, or well, is a best practice among experienced preppers. It’s necessary to have a water filter as well, even if the taps are still working. Many refuse to drink tap water even when there is no emergency. Berkey was our previous favorite but they’re under attack from regulators so the Alexapure systems are solid replacements.
For those in the city or away from fresh water sources, storage is the best option. This can be challenging because proper water storage containers take up a lot of room and are difficult to move if the need arises. For “bug in” situations, having a larger container that stores hundreds or even thousands of gallons is better than stacking 1-5 gallon containers. Unfortunately, they won’t be easily transportable and they can cost a lot to install.
Water is critical. If chaos erupts and water infrastructure is compromised, having a large backup supply can be lifesaving.
Pharmaceuticals and Medical Supplies
There are multiple threats specific to the medical supply chain. With Chinese and Indian imports accounting for over 90% of pharmaceutical ingredients in the United States, deteriorating relations could make it impossible to get the medicines and antibiotics many of us need.
Stocking up many prescription medications can be hard. Doctors generally do not like to prescribe large batches of drugs even if they are shelf-stable for extended periods of time. It is a best practice to ask your doctor if they can prescribe a larger amount. Today, some are sympathetic to concerns about pharmacies running out or becoming inaccessible. Tell them your concerns. It’s worth a shot. The worst they can do is say no.
If your doctor is unwilling to help you stock up on medicines, then Jase Medical is a good alternative. Through telehealth, they can prescribe daily meds or antibiotics that are shipped to your door. As proponents of medical freedom, they empathize with those who want to have enough medical supplies on hand in case things go wrong.
Energy Sources
The vast majority of Americans are locked into the grid. This has proven to be a massive liability when the grid goes down. Unfortunately, there are no inexpensive remedies.
Those living off-grid had to either spend a lot of money or effort (or both) to get their alternative energy sources like solar set up. For those who do not want to go so far, it’s still a best practice to have backup power sources. Diesel generators and portable solar panels are the two most popular, and while they’re not inexpensive they are not out of reach of most Americans who are concerned about being without power for extended periods of time.
Natural gas is another necessity for many, but that’s far more challenging to replace. Having alternatives for heating and cooking that can be powered if gas and electric grids go down is important. Have a backup for items that require power such as manual can openers. If you’re stuck eating canned foods for a while and all you have is an electric opener, you’ll have problems.
Don’t Forget the Protein
When most think about “prepping,” they think about their food supply. More Americans are turning to gardening and homesteading as ways to produce their own food. Others are working with local farmers and ranchers to purchase directly from the sources. This is a good idea whether doomsday comes or not, but it’s particularly important if the food supply chain is broken.
Most grocery stores have about one to two weeks worth of food, as do most American households. Grocers rely heavily on truckers to receive their ongoing shipments. In a crisis, the current process can fail. It behooves Americans for multiple reasons to localize their food purchases as much as possible.
Long-term storage is another popular option. Canned foods, MREs, and freeze dried meals are selling out quickly even as prices rise. But one component that is conspicuously absent in shelf-stable food is high-quality protein. Most survival food companies offer low quality “protein buckets” or cans of meat, but they are often barely edible.
Prepper All-Naturals offers premium cuts of steak that have been cooked sous vide and freeze dried to give them a 25-year shelf life. They offer Ribeye, NY Strip, and Tenderloin among others.
Having buckets of beans and rice is a good start, but keeping a solid supply of high-quality protein isn’t just healthier. It can help a family maintain normalcy through crises.
Prepare Without Fear
With all the challenges we face as Americans today, it can be emotionally draining. Citizens are scared and there’s nothing irrational about their concerns. Being prepared and making lifestyle changes to secure necessities can go a long way toward overcoming the fears that plague us. We should hope and pray for the best but prepare for the worst. And if the worst does come, then knowing we did what we could to be ready for it will help us face those challenges with confidence.
Yeah, he consulted with the technocratic “expert” psychologists and social workers, who are, in reality, themselves among the most deluded, insane, stupid nutcases ever to walk the face of the earth.
The delusional lie, and abominable sin, is affirmed in their bubble, but next comes the attempt to force everyone else to give affirmation to their delusion, and that’s not going to happen. So all the “experts” are really doing is butchering the children, destroying their physical health, setting them up for a lifetime of disappointment, as well as turning them into little spoiled brats who will spend the rest of their bitter and rebellious days trying to demand that everyone else affirm their delusional sin.
There is no scenario where such abominable sin is anything but cruel.
There is no scenario where parents who would willfully do that to their child, would do so out of love for their child. None. Parents doing this to their children are doing so out of selfishness and concern only for themselves.
The “experts” think they can make it work by forcing everyone else on the planet to affirm the lie, burn their Bibles and affirm the sin, and go around pretending that the “experts” are so super-duper advanced and supreme that they can change a person’s sex, when they cannot do so and never will.
It takes 5 minutes to reason this out. It’s not rocket science.
– Can a person’s sex be surgically changed? No, and it’s not even close.
– Can you force everyone else on the planet to go along with the delusion? No, and it’s not even close. That would be government-establishment of religion
The “experts” who can’t seem to comprehend and factor these most basic truths, are among some of the stupidest and most wicked-hearted, self-serving people to ever walk this earth. It doesn’t take an “expert” to comprehend such basic facts, anymore than it takes a Ph.D. in mathematics to comprehend that 2+2=4.
And it is the responsibility of our elected officials and the courts to keep these “experts” in check. But rather than fulfill that responsibility, the technocrats are just about being handed full dictatorial reign.
Now their argument is “they exist and have always existed”
Well, no kidding. If they’d bother to pick up a Bible and read it, they’d discover that they’re several thousand years late in finally figuring that out. Deluded transvestites have existed since before Duet. 22:5 was written. Sexual immorality has existed since before Sodom and Gomorrah.
Their arguments are about like saying we should support and affirm armed robbery because kleptomaniacs exist – because there have always been some people who have a strong compulsion to steal.
Then they’ll say, “it doesn’t affect you”, about 30 seconds before they demand that I speak their pronouns, submit my child to their indoctrination in school, fall lock-step in line and endorse and celebrate sin in order to put food on the table.
Well, the justification of wickedness and the condemnation of righteousness are also abominable sins. (Prov. 17:15)
Bottom line, if they’re going to force everyone else to affirm and endorse the immorality and lies, to get on board and go along with the delusion, then they’re going to have to establish a government imposed false religion and set themselves up as the chief priests. Otherwise, it ain’t happening.
It all begs the question … just how smart are these:”experts” in the first place
Did DeWine then truly do his due diligence?
Did he ask the pertinent questions?
Can the sex actually be changed?
Can you force everyone else to go along?
If the sex cannot be changed, and everyone else cannot be forced to affirm, then does that change your expert analysis that affirmation is the correct approach? If not, why? How is it healthy and beneficial then to fool the child into an expectation of affirmation that will not be given, and cannot be forcibly imposed, out in the real world later in life?
No, he didn’t ask these questions. He didn’t do his due diligence, as he claims. And it’s not even close.
Guaranteed, the next he will do is start demanding that everyone else give that affirmation, in a despotic attempt, like and alongside the so-called experts he consulted, to prove himself right.
The only honest and truthful argument the pro-butchery, pro-sin crowd has is that they need to start their brainwashing and butchery earlier in order to create a better illusion.
That’s it … the kids are a carnival sideshow magic trick
It might appear that they have a legitimate argument as it relates to what they call “intersex”. But they do not. The Bible calls them eunuchs by birth. Eunuchs are male, and they are expected to present themselves as males. If they’re so-called “intersex” then a Y chromosome will be present, attesting to the fact that they are in fact male. The fact that they are male was known and written down in God’s word thousands of years ago. So if a child is born a eunuch, and they want to do surgeries and administer medicines to make a eunuch more male (not a choice of male or female, but male), then that may not be sinful, and would not be a delusional lie – though it could be sinful if the focus is on sensuality and sexual immorality. That’s the only circumstance where I might (might) approve of such medical procedures at any age. And I say might, because eunuchs did have a place and purpose, as Jesus reiterated in Matt. 19. It would require more study, prayer, and thought. But of course, in the case of eunuchs who recognize they are male, they are not going to have a problem, whether there is any “affirming care” or not. It would not be sinful or delusional to refer to them as a male, regardless of medical procedures, because they are in fact male.
… did and do have a place and purpose
Jesus’ point was, in part, that eunuchs should not be deemed lesser men simply because they could not marry and have children, in context with His statement on marriage just prior.
