Republican gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder. Conservative talk show host Larry Elder announced Thursday night that he is launching a bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
Elder, who turns 71 years old next week, announced his bid during an appearance on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” with host Tucker Carlson.
Elder said that he is pro-life, doesn’t believe America is racist, wants secure borders, wants the U.S. to be energy independent, and wants to fix urban schools.
“I’m announcing that I’m running for the presidency of the United States on your program,” Elder said. “And thank you so much for giving me this honor and this platform.”Elder ran to replace Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom, who faced a recall election in 2021 for a variety of reasons, including his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, which many considered disastrous.
