Let’s stipulate that the DNC would like to replace Joe Biden as their nominee. Some may argue against this, but that’s only a debate about whether it’s a wish or an achievable goal. The presumptive nominee has been such a debacle since eliminating his opponents that it’s impossible to imagine the DNC wouldn’t love to replace him.
If the do, the question turns to who would be best to do it. For a couple of months, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo seemed to be the natural choice. He was getting a ton of positive press for his coronavirus response and acquired the name recognition to make him a viable choice. But lately, all of the news about Cuomo has been bad, centered around his forcing nursing homes to accept patients without testing them for the coronavirus.
Andrew Cuomo Scrambles to Change Nursing Home Virus Policies as Democrats Call for Independent Investigation
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo finds himself engulfed in scandal as a growing number of Democrats join state Republicans in demanding an independent investigation into his controversial policies and how questionable actions may might have contributed to the catastrophic outbreak of coronavirus in New York nursing homes.
More details have emerged in recent days raising major questions about potentially fatal decisions made under Cuomo’s watch as the death toll in New York’s nursing homes swells to over 5300 and continues to climb.
The center of the storm surrounds a controversial March 25 directive prohibiting nursing homes from testing recovering hospital patients prior to intake. This while Cuomo’s aides reportedly quietly worked to shield nursing homes from lawsuits due to coronavirus following lobbying by industry representatives.
The March 25 executive order in question stated, “[nursing homes] are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident who is determined medically stable to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission.”
One would think he’s essentially disqualified. That leaves a few names to consider. Their ideal choice would be Michelle Obama, but she has indicated that she isn’t interested. That may be a smokescreen. We’ll see. Another option is their perennial loser, Hillary Clinton. If she’s the selection, it will be because she has more clout that many realize.
California Governor Gavin Newsom seems to be the most likely selection. He’s popular in his state, though not because of his policies. California leftists love the idea of Newsom more than the actual politician himself, which is why he continues to thwart recall efforts despite his state suffering so much under his regime.
The most likely scenario is that Biden isn’t replaced but has a Vice President forced on him who would be the de facto president if they win. Since he has already declared his running mate would be a woman, that eliminates Newsom. But the other two women in the running are still options. There’s also Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Senators Amy Klobuchar and Kamala Harris, and the person who still believes she’s Georgia’s Governor, Stacey Abrams.
It’s a shame, really, because Cuomo would have been more fun to go after than Biden or Clinton. But it won’t be him. Whoever the DNC taps to replace Biden, we must be ready to take them on in the general election.
