A 13-year-old Honduran migrant had been submerged for over a minute after failing to swim across the Rio Grande. His parents were struggling ahead of him, either not knowing their son had drowned or not able to save him themselves. Thankfully, border patrol was there to pull the boy from the water and bring him to shore. He wasn’t breathing or responding, so they performed life-saving emergency CPR on him, clearing the water from his lungs and getting him breathing on his own again.
They saved his life. You won’t read about this in mainstream media, though. Heroism as the border goes against their leftist narrative.
On June 25, Border Patrol agents performing maritime operations on the Rio Grande River observed two individuals struggling to stay afloat near the Eagle Pass Port of Entry. As agents moved to assist, they saw a third person a short distance down-stream, submerged beneath the surface and unmoving. Agents moved closer and pulled the lifeless teen aboard their vessel. The 13-year-old male was unconscious and not breathing, and had been underwater for more than a full minute. The vessel commander quickly performed CPR, assisted by the vessel’s crewman. Through the agents’ efforts, the teen eventually coughed up water, began breathing on his own and regained consciousness. The other two people, later determined to be the rescued teen’s parents, were recovered from the river and all were brought safely to the U.S. shore.
Progressives incessantly paint border patrol agents as heartless jackboots separating children from their parents and keeping them locked up in cages. But they have many jobs beyond the under-appreciated border security they provide. They must often be saviors for their fellow humans regardless of immigration status. They aren’t just enforcing the law. They’re doing what’s right for all people, and that simply doesn’t match the leftist narrative that wants everyone to believe they’re essentially evil pawns of the President.
These men and women are heroes. It isn’t just when they’re saving lives. They don’t get thanked enough and are often attacked by the very people they’re charged with protecting. Be sure to thank a CBP officer next time you see one.
