The 21st Congressional District in Texas will have two heavyweights battling for the seat. In one corner is conservative stalwart Chip Roy who narrowly won the seat in 2018. But don’t take the closeness of is victory make it seem like he’s not popular. It was the Beto “Out of State Money” O’Rourke who drew the huge Democratic turnout in the red state.
In the other corner is a blast from the recent past, former gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis. Made famous for a long and futile filibuster on an abortion bill while wearing pink sneakers, the popular Democrat is hoping for a better showing than her 20-point 2014 loss to Governor Greg Abbott.
Davis comes in with buzz already brewing as her old nickname gets revived:

Davis will face first-term Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy after he narrowly won his historically Republican district in 2018. The district became significantly more competitive due to the unprecedented amount of money 2020 presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke brought into the metropolitan areas of Texas during the election, causing formerly Republican urban districts to swing to Democrats for the first time in decades.
Despite Davis’s popularity, this should be a landslide win for Roy. He’s demonstrated he’s adamant about keeping the promises he made to his voters even if it goes against the grain. Texas needs Roy to stay.
