There’s been no shortage of proposed solutions to the migrant crisis. Build the wall. Increase border patrol personnel. Send them back to Mexico. Send them to sanctuary cities. Try the Highway 185 Solution. But when we look at the problem, many are missing the real cause. Instead of figuring out ways to stop them from getting across the border, we need to take away the incentive for them to try to cross in the first place.
The incentive is our asylum laws. Word has spread to Central America that if they can cross the border, get captured by border patrol agents, and apply for asylum, they’ll be released to the interior. Word has also spread that if a Democrat becomes President, they’ll likely get some form of amnesty that will allow them to stay permanently. These two incentives mean the masses of people breaching our borders will continue to increase. These facts are not even contested by most Democrats, though they’ll do everything they can to change the subject.
If we fix the asylum laws, we solve the crisis. Will people still cross over illegally? Absolutely. The overall problem won’t be solved. but today, we have masses of people coming over. And the vast majority of them never even show up for their asylum hearing.

We need to immediately change asylum rules. There are many ways this can be done. The obvious way is for all asylum seekers to be forced to wait in Mexico. To do this, we’d need to make an agreement with Mexico to accommodate them. The less obvious way is detain asylum seekers in a humane manner until their hearing. This would have to be accompanied by a massive increase in the people hearing the cases to expedite the process; we can’t detain them for years. The even less obvious way is to demand all asylum seekers must come through a port of entry. There are legal ramifications for this, but it can be done through a series of new laws.
But perhaps the most important change that can be made that would not require much coaxing of Democrats or the American people is to declare a harsh penalty for not appearing at a hearing. Failure to do so isn’t just deportation. It would mean criminal charges, including an immediate warrant for arrest.
Whatever they do to fix it, they need to act immediately. This problem is getting worse by the day. There seems to be no sense of urgency from our lawmakers. If this goes on through 2020, we’ll need to vote out anyone opposed.

They’re Trying to Shut Us Down
Over the last several months, I’ve lost count of how many times the powers-that-be have tried to shut us down. They’ve sent hackers at us, forcing us to take extreme measures on web security. They sent attorneys after us, but thankfully we’re not easily intimidated by baseless accusations or threats. They’ve even gone so far as to make physical threats. Those can actually be a bit worrisome but Remington has me covered.
