You can call this anecdotal if you’d like, but hear me out. I track stories about crimes committed by illegal immigrants every day. My alerts comb through mainstream media outlets large and small looking for instances of multiple keywords, plus I check on several great sources for such stories like the CBP and ICE websites as well as outlets dedicated to reporting illegal alien crimes.
I read literally dozens of stories on the topic every day.
It’s important to understand this because I believe I’m uniquely qualified to state a positive trend in reporting. There was a time not too long ago when most of the stories I would read would come from keywords like “detainer” or “immigration status.” These references were almost always mentioned at the bottom of articles as the media attempted to downplay the source of the alleged criminal.
Things have changed. It’s been noticeable for about a month now. Not only are more stories reporting the status of the illegal immigrants more clearly and at the top, they’re even going so far as to mention their status in the headlines. I assure you, this was not the case just a couple of months ago.
My theory is that since there isn’t as much of a stigma from the left about reporting these incidents following a cooling down of the border wall as a hot topic, mainstream media outlets are much more willing to lead with the important information. I also believe they’re finding people are more interested in clicking on stories that mention the immigration status in the headlines. Lastly, there’s obviously been a dramatic increase in the number of illegal immigrants and as a result we’re seeing more illegal alien crime to report.
It’s a Pyrrhic victory; more crime by illegal aliens can’t be considered a good thing. But at least the media is less inclined to hide their immigration status. For the border crisis to end, we need the people to be informed.
