One of the first big takeaways from Attorney General William Barr’s hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee came following a question by Senator Chuck Grassley. He asked, “What are you doing to investigate unauthorized media contacts by the department and FBI officials during the Russian investigation?”
Barr replied, “We have multiple criminal leak investigations under way.”

Leaks were a big part of the investigation’s narrative as it was built by the press. As with any investigation, there are not supposed to be leaks to the press unless they are authorized. Barr’s confirmation that investigations are underway tells us there’s a possibility of wrongdoing that could eventually paint the whole investigation in a negative light.
Then, Senator Mike Lee called it all out as a conspiracy theory:

We are entering the next stage of the Russia investigation, the portion that looks at who, what, and why there was an investigation in the first place. This is the part that makes Democrats cringe in defense. It should get fun from here.
