Border patrol saves 7 illegal immigrants including 3 children from drowning in the Rio Grande

Seven illegal immigrants from El Salvador were rescued by U.S. border patrol as they attempted to cross the Rio Grande River on Tuesday. The four adults and three children were unable to stay afloat in the rapid waters and had to call out for help. Luckily for them, border patrol was nearby and saved all seven lives.

“The higher number of families attempting to illegally enter the United States exposes more vulnerable adults and children to the hazards and risks of crossing the Rio Grande River,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. “If not for the quick response by our Border Patrol agents, this incident could have ended tragically with the loss of life of three small children and their parents.”
According to border patrol:

On March 19, while conducting maritime operations, the Del Rio Station Marine Unit rescued two families from El Salvador after they attempted to cross the Rio Grande River near the Del Rio Port of Entry. The two families, totaling seven individuals, including three children ages three, four, and 10, were struggling to stay afloat in the swift current. The agents heard them call out for help because they could no longer hold their children while trying to stay above water. The agents immediately recognized their distress and navigated their service vessel toward the individuals, deployed a rescue rope, and safely pulled the individuals aboard the vessel.

All seven individuals were determined to be nationals of El Salvador. All were in good health and were transported to the Del Rio Border Patrol Station for processing in accordance with CBP guidelines.

My Take

We are often told stories by the media about the dangerous conditions from which the masses of people from Central America are fleeing. While the President and other Republicans, as well as border patrol itself, tries to tell people the dangers these people face on their journeys, leftist media continues to downplay it. It becomes especially dangerous for those who choose to enter illegally instead of using a much safer port of entry, as Tuesday’s near-tragedy demonstrates.

The bravery of border patrol agents doing their thankless jobs while getting constant criticism from the left and little support at all from Washington DC is worth commendation.

Mainstream media loves to pounce any times harm comes to illegal immigrants in border patrol custody. When they save lives, as they did yesterday, it’s radio-silence from the press. Why? It’s just another example of why we need to build the wall now.

Tell the migrants: AOC calls border detention centers ‘concentration camps’

A warning to migrants AOC calls border detention centers concentration camps

Attention current and potential migrants from Central America intent on breaching our southern border: Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says if you cross the border, America will put you in concentration camps.

As much as I’d like to tackle the absurdity of the statements she made on Instagram last night, I’ve decided to run with her story as if it were based on facts. After all, Democrats have made a habit out of wild claims about migrant treatment at the border, yet they simultaneously impede every effort to make things better such as more beds, more border patrol agents, and a wall. They could change the laws for asylum seekers to dissuade migrants from making the dangerous trip with their cartel chaperones. There are so many things they can do instead of making wild claims, but they won’t do it.

So instead of calling them out, it’s time to embrace them. If AOC wants to spread the word that migrants are being held in concentration camps and forced to endure the whims of a “fascist” in charge, we should let her do it. Perhaps then they’d think twice about stealing our sovereignty by breaking our laws to achieve their goals.

The detention centers at the border are not concentration camps, of course. It’s almost certain AOC got her talking points from one of several articles written last week about Andrea Pitzer, author of One Long Night: A Global History of Concentration Camps, in which she makes the claims about what’s happening at the border. AOC’s talking points seemed to match Pitzer’s almost verbatim.

Heavy on whiny rhetoric but short on solutions to a clear problem, Ocasio-Cortez has once again used radical claims to foment outrage. But what if it can be used to establish fear? I’m not a fan of lying nor spreading fear, but if the Democrats want to establish the narrative that asylum-seekers are tossed into concentration camps once they cross the border, who am I to stop them?

The knee-jerk reaction to AOC’s lies would be to debunk them. But I’m not going to this time. If she can convince migrants they’ll be placed in concentration camps, maybe they’ll think twice about breaching our borders.

Trump: ‘Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens’

Trump Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens

One of the promises the President made through much of the 2016 election season was deportation. His views shifted throughout the campaign as he acknowledged the difficulty of deporting tens of millions of illegal immigrants while simultaneously saying it needed to be done. Some have called this a broken promise since deportation numbers have not reached the levels many expected, but that may be changing very soon.

In two Tweets, the President said, “Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States. They will be removed as fast as they come in. Mexico, using their strong immigration laws, is doing a very good job of stopping people long before they get to our Southern Border. Guatemala is getting ready to sign a Safe-Third Agreement. The only ones who won’t do anything are the Democrats in Congress. They must vote to get rid of the loopholes, and fix asylum! If so, Border Crisis will end quickly!”

In calling out the Democrats, the President referred to their continuous blocking of any actions that could actually help solve our border crisis, from the wall to border patrol resources to fixing the loopholes asylum seekers use to cross the border and get released to the interior while awaiting their hearing. As acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan noted last week, 90% of recent migrants haven’t shown up for their asylum hearings and were issued removal orders.

Are these the “illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States” the President was referencing? Though the numbers are high, they have not reached into the millions just yet. But combined with standing removal orders already on the books, the deportation potential does hit seven digits.

This was one of the few promises the President hadn’t kept yet, but it appears the deportation machine at ICE is getting ramped up. Finally. This is a great first step towards dissuading entry in the first place.

U.S. halts new aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras until steps are taken to end border crisis

US halts new aid to El Salvador Guatemala and Honduras until steps are taken to end border crisis

The State Department announced Monday the United States will discontinue sending new foreign aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras until the Central American nations take “concrete action” to curb the flow of illegal immigrants to our southern border.

“We completed a review, and previously awarded grants and contracts will continue with current funding,” said State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus. “State Department assistance in support of priorities of the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security priorities to help the Northern Triangle governments take actions that will protect the U.S. border and counter transnational organized crime will also continue.”

In March, President Trump said he would stop sending aid until they figure out how to do their part to stop the border crisis.

Ortagus continued, “We will not provide new funds for programs in those countries until we are satisfied the Northern Triangle governments are taking concrete actions to reduce the number of illegal migrants coming to the U.S. border.”

Opinion

Jack Posobiec said, in one word, how this should make us all feel.

But, of course, I have a few more words than that. I’ve always acknowledged the border crisis must be handled on multiple fronts as past presidents have tried to strengthen security. But Trump is the first to try to force nations at the sources of the problem to get fixed. First, he negotiated with Mexico to do their part. Now, he’s asking the same from the Northern Triangle nations to do the same.

If the people have no reason to leave, they won’t. But as long as they are made to feel they need to come to America to have a normal life, they’ll continue to try to do so. It’s good that not all aid is being held back, as much of it is used to benefit us. But the threat of no new aid is big as all three nations rely on the United States to operate their own governments.

I couldn’t agree more with this sentiment…

Final Thoughts

It behooves these countries to do what they can to retain their citizens. With as much as 1/3rd of their populations claiming to want to come to America, these countries must do more to help themselves.
