NBC News is pushing a story that Russian-controlled news agencies and social media accounts potentially controlled by Russia are pressing hard for Representative Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) to be the Democratic nominee for President in 2020. They claim that Gabbard’s positions on Russia and Syria, among others, make her a Kremlin favorite.
They may be right. Her views tend to align more with Russian interests than other Democratic candidates.
"Gabbard was first elected to Congress in 2012 and represents the out islands and northern Oahu."
How inarticulate!
"Russians may be gravitating to Gabbard not because they think she can win, but because her positions, often in line with those of the Kremlin…."@NoqReport https://t.co/m5jR2fy9zR

Nevertheless, the way they’re handling the story is as a hit piece against Gabbard. Many Democrats have frowned on her perspectives which are often either more conservative than other contenders or are contrary to the current Democratic platform. Her popularity has been growing since she joined the House of Representatives, but she’s also faced hurdles appealing to the far-left wing of the party.
One of the few independent voices among Democrats on Capitol Hill, she is widely regarded as too much of a maverick to draw serious consideration for the nomination. Nevertheless, the notion that Russia is pushing her candidacy is interesting.
