I seriously thought this was The Onion or Babylon Bee when I saw the headline. Nope, it’s The Guardian.
“I think Europe needs to get a handle on migration because that is what lit the flame,” Clinton said, speaking as part of a series of interviews with senior centrist political figures about the rise of populists, particularly on the right, in Europe and the Americas.
“I admire the very generous and compassionate approaches that were taken particularly by leaders like Angela Merkel, but I think it is fair to say Europe has done its part, and must send a very clear message – ‘we are not going to be able to continue provide refuge and support’ – because if we don’t deal with the migration issue it will continue to roil the body politic.”
This is arguably the most accurate thing Hillary Clinton has ever said.
The right-wing populist movement that helped Donald Trump win the Presidency in America is similar to the various movements that resulted in Brexit and conservative politicians winning throughout the European Union. It isn’t just immigration, of course, but that’s definitely a huge part of the surging popularity that nationalist politicians have seen since 2015.
Despite a leftist backlash in America that resulted in some losses for Republicans, most notably control of the House of Representatives, concerns over unchecked illegal immigration are still at the top of mind for many Americans. In fact, it’s now the #1 concern for Americans as of this month.
This is obviously a reflection of growing concerns for the multiple migrant caravans heading towards our borders, including thousands of asylum seekers from Central America already waiting on the other side of the fence.
While the caravans are bringing this problem to greater prominence in the news cycle, it’s a perpetual problem that is likely much greater than most American know. As retired INS Senior Special Agent Michael Cutler noted, the caravans are like a snowball in a blizzard.
Leftists will never acknowledge the threat of unchecked illegal immigration no matter what evidence we present. But if we show them they can’t win elections until the problems are solved, perhaps we can prove Hillary is correct for once in her life.
