American media often neglects to report on Boko Haram, the Islamic State of west Africa. After a “resolution” was achieved following the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapping incident of 2014, the group has gone widely unreported by western media.
These men are butchers, arguably more dangerous than any other Islamic State operations and completely out of control as they roam Africa in search of innocent targets. The latest were a dozen farmers who were hacked to pieces by Boko Haram with their machetes.
A Civilian JTF Leader, Baba Kura Konomi on Saturday in Maiduguri disclosed to newsmen that the farmers were killed, without firing any shot from the guns mounted on the two trucks.
He said: “The insurgents used machetes instead of guns to kill the farmers who were working on their farmlands, located about 185-kilometres along Maiduguri-Damboa road.”
It isn’t just western media that’s ignoring them. Even local media often refrains from publishing stories about them while the government turns a blind eye, usually waiting until the stories are reported by outside agencies before acknowledging the events even happened.
At any random moment, residents anywhere in west Africa realize they may become targets.
Western news agencies do not cover Boko Haram because western media consumers do not seem to care about them. This attitude is not only dangerous for the victims. It empowers these terrorists to achieve their ultimate goal of spreading terror everywhere.
