Based on reviews (Rotten Tomato 91%) and box office results ($40 Million projected opening weekend), A Star is Born looks like a huge success as Bradley Cooper’s directorial and screenplay writing debut. The remake stars Cooper and singer Lady Gaga.
I haven’t seen it. Looks like a home theater watch for me, but I’m excited to add it to my list.
This may be one of the very few occasions when a remake is worthy. Hollywood has been reliant on remakes, reboots, redos, and superhero flicks for a decade. I hate that. It rarely yields good movies, yet Hollywood’s profit machine is driven by what audiences want. Apparently, audiences generally don’t want good film making anymore, which is why movies like A Star is Born doesn’t help the cause of steering Hollywood away from their recent bad habits.
It’s poised to be profitable before Monday, making it a gigantic win in an industry that often has to rely on international box office results to make their money back.
