Fact: we are no closer to true peace between the Palestinians and Israelis than we were two decades ago. During that time, we had president after president delay the promise we made before the turn of the millennium to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move our embassy there from Tel Aviv. It hasn’t worked so far. Why keep doing it?
This basic question is pushed aside by the false narrative being generated by those who oppose the move. They’ll point to relative quiet compared to various times in the past when fighting was more ferocious, but they’ll ignore the continuation of terrorist attacks that have been perpetrated very recently. They’ll say the Palestinians will no longer be willing to negotiate in good faith, yet they haven’t done so at any point since the promise was initially made. They’ll say a two-state solution was the only possible solution (it wasn’t) and now that solution is off the table thanks to President Trump, ignoring the glaring truth that a two-state solution acceptable to the Palestinians has been and always will be a suicidal move if Israel were ever to accept the terms.
It’s a nation the size of New Jersey, yet most of the world wants them to give up lands that are rightfully theirs to establish a peace that will never truly exist. Is it possible to put together a temporary peace? Of course. In fact, it’s a certainty that a false peace will be put into place some time in the future. The problem is this: any peace that requires Israel to narrow its borders will result in more attacks, not fewer. There cannot be a lasting peace in Israel regardless of where the U.S. Embassy is as long as there are large numbers of Palestinians and other Muslim nations that want to wipe Israel off the face of the map.
As noted yesterday, this false narrative was being built before President Trump made his announcement.
The anti-Israel spin against moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem has begun
I truly hope this comes to pass. There will be challenges, not just from the Palestinians and other Middle East nations but also from many here in the United States. We have to do what we can to fight the anti-Israel narrative. Meanwhile, Israel and the United States have to be prepared for an international backlash that could lead to harsh responses.
For better or for worse, it’s shaping up to be Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu versus the whole world. The way it’s handled and the end results will both reverberate across the globe. That’s not in question. What we have to wait to find out is if they’re able to craft their own narrative powerful enough to make it resonate.
Now that the announcement has been made and plans are pushing forward to move the embassy, we can expect violence. Those against the move will say, “told ya so.” They’ll ignore the fact that the move by President Trump is nothing more than an excuse for Palestinians and their supporters to enact the same violence they’ve enacted in the past. It’s true that the change in policy by the U.S. will be the catalyst for the violence, but just about anything can act as such a catalyst. What they want is violence. They just need some sort of justification to throw up as a reason for it. Had Trump not made the move, we would still have seen violence. It just would have had a different excuse.
Israel is our one true ally in the region. Don’t pretend like Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey, or anyone else would stick by us when it counts. Only Israel would do that just as only America under any president other than Barack Obama is the only nation that always has Israel’s back. This move was a long time coming. Now that it’s being made, we have to remain diligent here to fight the false narrative that’s brewing just as Israelis have to be diligent in their fight against the violence that is coming their way.
This move is 100% righteous and justifiable. It’s embarrassing that it wasn’t made by previous presidents, though they still held onto hope that peace could come to the region through diplomacy. Anyone who still believes this after all this time hasn’t been paying attention to the facts. When peace finally does come to for Israel, that’s when we should really be worried. That’ll mean they likely had to give up too much in order to achieve it. When that day comes, God help us all.
