It’s been reported that the primary sticking point in the passage of the GOP tax bill are demands for offsets in case of ballooning deficits. Presumably the rationale is that the people keeping their money will somehow starve the government. Once again we see that the two parties are merging into one with regard to their basic philosophy on property rights. The venerable Margaret Thatcher framed the issue precisely with the following:
One of the great debates of our time is about how much of your money should be spent by the State and how much you should keep to spend on your family. Let us never forget this fundamental truth: the State has no source of money other than money which people earn themselves. If the State wishes to spend more it can do so only by borrowing your savings or by taxing you more. It is no good thinking that someone else will pay—that “someone else” is you. There is no such thing as public money; there is only taxpayers’ money. Speech to Conservative Party Conference 1983 Oct 14
This fundamental truth has been forgotten by the Republican party and never even taken under consideration by the nation’s Left. It would seem that they have the misguided notion that all property and particularly tax revenue is automatically the purview of the government. That is the only conclusion that one can reach when considering the actions of certain politicians. On a basic level this kind of thinking can be infuriating to contemplate, along with bringing up thoughts of term limits and a new party. This is what happens when one spends too much time in the rarefied air of Washington and believes in the primacy of the government over the people.
One never hears how the people will pay for some new tax burden, it is usually couched in terms of how the government will be able to survive with less. The wrongheaded thinking is frequently phrased as how tax cuts will be paid for as though the people keeping the money they’ve earned is a ‘cost’ to the government. We will never extricate ourselves from this mess without changing this absurd mindset.
The politician’s first priority should be how will the people pay all of these taxes, instead of having an entitlement mentality of unlimited growth that will only lead to disaster.
We Often Feel Like David Taking on Giants
Today’s Goliath is the Mainstream Media Industrial Complex that brainwashes the masses.
Our mission is very straightforward: To counter the false narratives and nefarious agendas destroying America today. It isn’t easy for obvious reasons; despite incredible growth over the last year we are still a very tiny fish in a huge media pond. But we’re fighting and we will continue to do so, Lord willing, for as long as we possibly can. The battle for America’s present and future is too important for us to back down to the giants that stand in our way.
We need help. I don’t want to say “desperately,” but the need is definitely great. If you have the means, please donate through our GivingFuel page, PayPal, or our Substack page. Your generosity is what keeps these sites running and allows us to get the truth to the masses. We’ve had great success in growing but we know we can do more with your assistance.
Thank you, and God Bless!
