Editor’s Note: This report has not been independently corroborated, but the source, Big League Politics, has a history of breaking similar stories that turned out to be true.
A new report about alleged Dayton mass shooter Connor Betts indicates he was a registered Democrat who voted in two Democratic primaries, reversing the common mainstream media narrative that the recent wave of mass shootings were being perpetrated exclusively by Republicans. This narrative had already been partially debunked as yesterday’s alleged El Paso shooter, Patrick Crusius, had been critical of the GOP as well as Democrats.
If it turns out to be accurate, this report will also counteract the other big narrative from today, that white supremacy is driving these shooters. It was clear the Crusius was a racist based on the manifesto he published prior to his attack in El Paso yesterday, but no motive has been established for Betts’ at this point. Nonetheless, progressives are already painting it as another example of white supremacy because most of the nine people he shot, which included his sister, were minorities.
There’s a trend that’s being noticed by some regarding young white males and mass shootings. By including the Gilroy shooting last week, we see a picture of three young, aloof men with an apparent disdain for society and access to firearms. But political ideology does not appear to be a contributing factor in this trend, especially if Betts is, indeed, a Democrat.
According to BLC:
The Greene County Board of Elections reveals Betts began voting in 2012, and next voted in the Democratic Party Ohio Primary on March 15 of 2016. After voting in the 2016 General Election, Betts later voted in the 2018 Democratic Party Primary on May 8, 2018. Betts voted in a total of 7 elections, including Democratic Primaries.
After finding this information, Big League Politics cross referenced the data with other publicly available information from the Ohio Secretary of State, which confirms his address, polling location, and other voter information.
As our EIC noted earlier, we have a problem with guns that cannot be solved by removing them. If anything, we need looser gun laws in order to dissuade mass shooters or stop them when they start.
The mental illness that drives people to commit mass murder is not exclusive to one political ideology or the other. We must stop labeling mass shooters based on false narratives and address the issue with logic and facts.
