A US Secret Service (USSS) agent accidentally shot himself on Saturday in Washington, DC. This comes as the USSS has been facing greater scrutiny in recent months.

The USSS confirmed that one of its agents accidentally discharged his weapon while on duty, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries. The agent was hospitalized following the incident, and no other individuals were harmed.

The agency described the event as a “negligent discharge,” though details on how the incident happened or the context surrounding it have not been made clear to the public. The Secret Service Office of Professional Responsibility has stated that it plans to launch an investigation into the matter, according to a report by WUSA9.
