OPM Extends Federal Buyout Offer Deadline to Monday After Court Order

The White House Office of Personnel Management (OPM) on Thursday extended the deadline for federal employees to accept a buyout offer in exchange for their resignation through Monday.

The extension comes hours after a federal judge temporarily blocked the order, which originally had a Thursday deadline. The judge scheduled a hearing on the issue for Monday at 2 p.m. Eastern, and ordered the OPM to extend the acceptance deadline until after the hearing, per the Associated Press.

OPM sent the offer to millions of employees last week. The offer initially allowed employees to retain benefits and be paid through September if they agreed to opt out by Feb. 6, which has now been extended to 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Feb. 10.

“In compliance with the court order, the deadline for federal employees to accept the deferred resignation program is being extended to Monday, February 10, at 11:59pm ET,” the office posted on X. “The program is NOT being blocked or canceled. The government will honor the deferred resignation offer.”

The extension comes as more than 60,000 federal employees have reportedly accepted the buyout offer, according to Reuters. The deal was offered to all federal employees except military personnel, those who work in national security and immigration, and postal workers. […]
