Making Young People More Alarmed About Climate Change
According to Clinton, children’s “mental and physical health” is being negatively impacted by climate change, which is why it’s necessary to educate children early on about the ecological disaster taking place. Here’s the truth: First and foremost, anxiety and alarmism about climate change is negatively impacting children’s mental health. Psychologists even have a term for it: “eco-anxiety” or “climate grief.” As Clinton explains, her team was motivated by the question:
“How do we reach as many people as possible to let them know they literally can build brain cells by reading, talking and singing to babies and toddlers?”
Young people are already very worried about the environment and climate change. A 2021 survey found that 60% of people aged 16 to 25 worldwide are “highly” worried about climate change already, 45% so much that they have trouble sleeping or eating properly.
