Christian Publication Goes After Oliver Anthony’s Working Man’s Anthem Because It’s Too Mean

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and they can write about it all they want. Conversely, we’re also allowed to argue against whatever they happened to post if we disagree, and I wholeheartedly disagree with Christianity Today‘s recent article that took offense to Oliver Anthony’s song, “Rich Men North of Richmond.”

Specifically, the author didn’t like the lines where Anthony lambasts obese people on welfare buying “fudge rounds” while others starve on the streets. Is it harsh? Maybe. But I believe Anthony wasn’t blasting everyone on welfare, just those who shouldn’t be but are taking advantage of the system.

I’m not alone:

I thought for sure this had to be a joke, but nope, it’s real!! The Evangelical Rich Men North of Richmond would like you to know, they would prefer if you didn’t like that song that captures the pain of watching the country crumble around us.🙄 https://t.co/324w7BBntF

Here are the lyrics the author from Christianity Today didn’t like:

Lord, we got folks in the street, ain’t got nothin’ to eat
And the obese milkin’ welfare
Well, God, if you’re 5-foot-3 and you’re 300 pounds
Taxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge rounds

The story reveals the author’s personal experience in the past with being on food stamps, which is why she doesn’t like the song. That’s fine. Where I take exception is that she claims other Christians shouldn’t like it, either.

That’s not her concern. This is not a Biblical issue just because she got offended. Again, if Anthony went after EVERYONE needing assistance, that would be one thing. But he singled out morbidly obese people using taxpayer funds to buy unhealthy food. I see nothing anti-Biblical about such a notion.

TRUMP IS BACK! Gold and Silver prices responded nicely to his inauguration and should continue to surge. Secure your retirement with a tax-free Genesis Gold IRA. Work with a faith-driven, America First precious metals company.

Oliver Anthony’s song doesn’t rank in the top 10,000 problems this nation and the world faces from a Biblical perspective. A Christian publication and author might want to address real issues instead of manufacturing one over lyrics in a song they don’t like.

Dagger
In these tough financial times, you need a company you can trust with stewardship of your life’s savings. We recommend self-directed IRAs backed by physical precious metals provided by Genesis, a faith-driven gold and silver company.

I cannot stand the USE OF CHRISTIAN as click bait.

So few…so sadly FEW people are TRUE CHRISTIANS. These? These are a segment of THEM that call themselves Christians and are NOT. They are everywhere. They go about PERVERTING THE WORD OF GOD and yet call themselves as part of Him.
It is very similar to those in government. ‘These’ swear on the Bible and say an oath, but have NO INTENTIONS OF UPHOLDING THEIR OATH.
America- without seas of blood in its streets- IS D O O M E D by these hypocrites.
    BUT GOD.

So many are Joel Osteen cucks who think Christianity is all about being “blessed” with material things. They support the LGBDegeneracy instead of calling it out as sinful.

Christianity Today is a sold out compromised rag. Unfortunately most Christians are as biblically illiterate as the day is long. Most 21st Century Christians do not understand what true Christianity looks like. It’s why America is a moral cesspool that it is.

You are so right! I was praying for the country the other day and it dawned on me… We literally have people in America who do not know the basics of the love of Jesus Christ! They only know the propaganda that keeps them from even seeking to see anything about Him. I wrote out the Lord’s Prayer so I could put it to music, and MY OWN SON asked me if I WROTE IT bc it was BEAUTIFUL. And he was raised in a Christian home and went to church for most of his life. You can imagine my own grief at that realization. It’s just a heckuvan epiphany…. People, in this day and age, have not heard the Truth. I’ve changed my shameful ways. Pray that others wake up, too, and give God the glory He deserves. Bless you for your comment! It was very insightful and a little depressing, but TRUE.

If you want “mean songs” directed toward tyrants in power try reading the Psalms sometime! Ha!

As an evangelical Christian whose Lord is Jesus Christ, I am sick and tired of pusillanimous, whiny-bitch Christians, like David French and Russell Moore, who are toadies for everyone who gets offended by truth. Time to call a spade a spade (I’m sure THAT phrase will offend many) and take a stand for principle instead of emotion. While Jesus came and died for our sins due to his infinite love for us, he certainly didn’t back down when he offended the Pharisees, Sadducees and Romans.

The Apostle Paul says in 2nd. Thessalonians 3, that “if you don’t work, then neither shall you eat”! Too many “Christians” today are those that believe according to their own human comprehension. God makes it crystal clear and unambiguous that we are Not to lean on our own understanding. Peter even said Paul had things to say that we’re not easy to understand. In his 2nd letter to Timothy, Paul said ALL scripture is good, for learning, for correcting and for reproof. I can make an absolute statement: if you don’t know what the Bible says, you’ll NEVER know the mind of God.

This magazine has been on Satan’s team for quite a while now.
