Rudy Giuliani is no longer entitled to bankruptcy protection, a judge ruled on Friday, and creditors will be able to go after his assets within days in his case. The former New York mayor sought bankruptcy protection after a jury ruled in favor of two election workers to be awarded $148 million in a defamation case against Giuliani.
According to a report from The Hill, in a 22-page ruling, US Bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane ruled against the bankruptcy claim, citing Giuliani’s failure to give financial transparency. Giuliani’s legal team has indicated he plans on appealing the defamation verdict which ruled in favor of election workers Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman, rewarding them the large sum.
“Mr. Giuliani has failed to provide an accurate and complete picture of his financial affairs in the six months that this case has been pending. Transparency into Mr. Giuliani’s finances has proven to be an elusive goal,” Lane wrote in the bankruptcy ruling. “The Court finds that cause exists to convert or dismiss the case.” […]
