Image: Matt Gaetz, Jim Jordan, YouTube Screenshots U.S. House Rep Matt Gaetz (R-FL) nominated U.S. House Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH) to be House Speaker prior to the second round of voting.
The nomination came as Jordan nominated U.S. House Rep Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to become the next Speaker.
McCarthy was unable to secure enough votes in the first vote as 19 GOP representatives voted against him.
Gaetz said that the speech that Jordan gave to nominate McCarthy sounded like a speech that a Speaker would make.
Additionally, Gaetz said that perhaps the Speaker should be someone who isn’t pursuing the position as well.
