A report by One America News on recent changes to New York City police policies regarding how they’re to address mentally disturbed individuals brought more to the forefront than just the shift in terminology. It highlighted a grave risk in New York City, which has become known as one of the safest big cities in the country. The risk: A reversal of gains in the war on crime due to radical progressive policies that hamper law enforcement’s ability to do its job.
Patrick Lynch, President of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association of the City of New York, talked to OAN’s Caitlyn Sinclair about the new policy that officers are not to use the acronym “EDPS” – short for “emotionally disturbed persons.” According to the virtue signaling social justice warriors in city hall, the use of this acronym somehow makes things worse.
It doesn’t take much more than basic common sense to realize this is absolutely wrong. New York City is in the middle of a mental health crisis. The use of a particular acronym by police officers isn’t the cause and forcing them to stop using it is not the solution. Law enforcement needs support, not more blow back from elected officials who a are appealing to the criminal element in the city instead of listening to law enforcement or law-abiding citizens.
These types of policies are having a detrimental effect on crime numbers that were made historically low starting with Rudy Giuliani’s turn as Mayor from 1994 to 2001. While the city is still considered to be relatively safe, statistics are showing a disturbing trend.
“At one time, headquarters and city hall would say, ‘crime is down in all categories,'” Lynch said. “Now notice the change of their terminology: ‘Overall crime is down.’ But violent crime, murder, rapes, sexual assaults, shootings, they’re on the rise.”
As long as Democrats spread the narrative that police officers are the root cause of problems with criminals, the criminals will continue to make gains. Patrick Lynch’s interview on OAN is a must-watch for everyone.
