Everything one might expect from an angry Robert De Niro leaving a voicemail to his long-time assistant became a reality today as the actor’s unhinged, expletive-laden rant was released to the public. The voicemail depicts his rage against someone who worked for him for more than a decade. Now that she’s suing him for $12 million, we can assume he’s no happier today than he was when he left the voicemail.
Graham Chase Robinson, who went to work for De Niro’s Canal Productions as their Vice President of Production and Finance, had dreams of launching her own Hollywood production company someday. She thought working for someone as powerful as De Niro and holding such a prestigious title at a young age (she was 25 when she was hired) would put her on the fast track to becoming a Hollywood power player herself.
What she quickly learned was being a Vice President in De Niro’s company wasn’t what she’d dreamed. Her lawsuit claims she was only given menial tasks such as cleaning his apartment, running errands, and other duties De Niro deemed suitable for her as a woman. She also alleges he made sexually implicit comments to her regularly and was generally abusive during her decade-long tenure at Canal.
“Robert De Niro is someone who has clung to old mores,” states a complaint filed on Thursday in New York federal court. “He does not accept the idea that men should treat women as equals. He does not care that gender discrimination in the workplace violates the law. Ms. Robinson is a casualty of this attitude.”
But the bombshell that has many furious at the Raging Bull actor is his alleged phone message left for her while she still worked for him in which he calls her vulgar names, threatens her career, and attempts to intimidate her.
Here is the call. Warning: Explicit language throughout.
Canal Productions filed a lawsuit against Robinson in August, alleging she used company credit cards, frequent flyer miles, and the company’s Netflix account for personal use. It’s speculated this move was to pressure Robinson to not release the audio of De Niro’s rant and to not sue the company or De Niro for their alleged crimes against her.
Instead of backing down, she counter-sued.
Robert De Niro Accused Of Discrimination, Sexual Harassment By Former Employee
In a $12 million countersuit for gender discrimination and wage violation filed Thursday, Robinson fiercely denied every charge against her and accused Canal Productions and De Niro personally of filing a fraudulent lawsuit because she told them upon her resignation that she was considering suing them.
Robinson’s complaint detailed years of alleged gender discrimination, harassment, and wage violations at the actor’s hands during her 11 years of “conscientious, diligent, loyal, and ethical” employment.
De Niro, Robinson said, treated her as his assistant and “office wife,” even after she had been promoted, assigning her to “stereotypically female” tasks such as mending his clothing, selecting gifts for his children, and vacuuming his apartment.
De Niro’s attorney released this statement: “The allegations made by Graham Chase Robinson against Robert De Niro are beyond absurd.”
Robert De Niro is the guy progressives have been heralding for his anti-Trump rants and political leftism. His #MeToo moment was as predictable as his meltdown on the phone, as Hollywood’s elite continue to think we’re all too dumb to oppose them.
