The outrage from the right is palpable. The Democrats are finally in full-blown impeachment mode against the President, manipulating a phone conversation with a foreign leader and utilizing second-hand knowledge of the events surrounding it as basis to demonstrate “high crimes and misdemeanors.” It’s a sham. We all know it. But this isn’t all about trying to take down the President. It’s also about distracting us from the messes they’ve made with their policies, the successes that have become evident as a result of the Trump presidency, and one important hot topic that I’ll discuss shortly.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not suggesting the Democrats aren’t really trying to impeach the President. They’d love to be able to get enough support from the American people to justify their presentation of articles of impeachment. That’s what the “inquiry” is all about – finding and presenting evidence to be propagated by the media to convince people that President Trump must be removed. They’ve already up their minds just as most Republicans on Capitol Hill have made up their minds. But both sides need the people to support them on it whichever way it goes.
But the timing of the inquiry is extremely important… and telling. From a purely political perspective, the best time to start this inquiry would be in the heat of the 2020 general election. They are jumping the gun as far as political expediency is concerned. At least that would be the logic if two things weren’t happening right now. The first revolves around the problems their policies are creating at the border, in sanctuary cities, through Obamacare, and with the economy.
They are having a hard time justifying all of the obstruction on securing the border because every time President Trump is allowed to make a move such as making Mexico do their part, the border surge lessens. Sanctuary jurisdictions are finally making the news more often as criminal illegal immigrants are released to the streets to commit more crimes. Healthcare is in shambles and the Democrats have done a good job of somehow placing the blame of Obamacare’s failures on Republicans, but Americans are starting to put two and two together so their scam is crumbling. As for the economy, it’s soaring despite their efforts to slow-play USMCA and prompt a recession.
There’s another level to their distraction from their failures that must be considered. Their candidates aren’t resonating with their voters. The timing of the impeachment inquiry couldn’t have been worse for the lower-tier candidates as fundraising has dried up as a result. Impeachment has stolen the candidates’ thunder and sucked all of the air out of the newsrooms. It’s very possible we could be down to six or seven candidates very soon as a result of the impeachment inquiry. It’s a double-dipper for Democrats as well because the policies being proposed by the candidates are so rife with Marxism and failure, they’re becoming easy targets for pundits to strike down in a Twitter thread.
The second way the impeachment inquiry is a distraction is by masking the successes the President and GOP have had. Or, to be more specific, they’re trying to distract Americans from the prosperity they’ve had as a result of the Trump presidency. More people are working. We’re making higher wages. China is on the ropes. Iran is ready to make a deal. The border crisis is easing a bit despite Democrats obstructing solutions. Things are truly getting better in American and the narrative that says otherwise is hard to make stick.
This brings us to the third reason the impeachment inquiry is going forward now. Very few are talking about it, but it makes perfect sense. Impeachment now takes focus away from the upcoming GOP gun control measures. The push for red flag gun laws, more background checks, and stiffer penalties against gun owners may be atrocities in the eyes of conservatives, but they’re popular with the left and the all-important center.
If (when) the GOP passes gun control, the Democrats will lose a major piece of ammunition in their attacks against the GOP. Democrats want gun control to come and go unnoticed by most because they view it as an election winner for the GOP. It’s not; I can demonstrate how it’s a major campaign mistake as gun control will deflate the conservative base whose passion will be necessary in 2020, but Democrats (and apparently a lot of Republican lawmakers) see it differently.
Every time Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, or any of the Democrats say this impeachment inquiry isn’t political, they’re lying. This is 100% political, designed to distract Americans from the things that are truly important to us. We need to focus on reality, not fantasy.
