Senator Elizabeth Warren is surging. She is passing former Vice President Joe Biden in many recent polls and leaving her communist cohort, Senator Bernie Sanders, in the dust. Conservatives in America should rejoice. We should hope for Warren to overcome her Democratic competitors and emerge as their nominee. Doing so will help America in two important ways.
The first is obvious. She’s a weak candidate against President Trump. Her messaging is so far to the left that President Trump’s conservative perspectives seem moderate in comparison. Unlike Sanders, she’s unwilling to admit Medicare-for-All would require a middle-class tax increase even when asked direct questions in front of a sympathetic audience. Her constant chants about taxing the rich to oblivion is a progressive populist view that’s good for rallying the base, but once the White House shows how poorly her numbers match up compared to reality, her argument will crumble… along with her moderate support.
The second reason we should hope for Warren to get the nomination is less obvious but arguably more important in the long-term. Today, Warren is the candidate with the most support from the far-left radical progressive wing of the party. This wing has been growing as “The Squad” and others have been yanking their party as far to the left as possible. It’s now essentially impossible to be pro-life, pro-border-security, or pro-common-sense and still be allowed in the modern Democratic Party.
Warren represents more than a change in the party. She represents a redo of the 2016 Democratic primaries in which the far-left have been made to believe their victory was stolen from them by the Democratic Establishment and handed to Hillary Clinton. They’re correct in this assertion in many ways, and the fact that Sanders was robbed has been building up to this point of redemption for the radical progressives ever since. They see 2020 as not only an opportunity to beat President Trump but also to take down the Democratic Establishment and replace it with socialist-friendly leadership at the DNC and on Capitol Hill.
2020 would be a repeat of 2016 if Biden gets the nomination with the fringe of the party using their angst to increase its size and power. One can argue that anyone other than Sanders or Warren getting the nomination will spark a revolt within the party, and while Democratic infighting may seem to behoove Republicans on the surface, we must understand the necessity of quashing this radical progressive revolt. It’s seeping into the hearts and minds of more Americans than is acceptable. Socialists were an annoying but tiny fraction of the electorate less than a decade ago. Today, they’re growing rapidly. We should not hope to get short-lived Democratic Party infighting in exchange for eventual victories by actual socialists.
A calm, moderate Democratic Party is better for the nation.
Watching President Trump defeat Warren in 2020 will be a stake in the heart of the radical progressive movement. It will give the Democratic Establishment the opportunity and power to suppress the radicals for now. Instead of many new members of “The Squad” joining Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her cronies, we’ll see a reversal as the party’s voters realize they need to embrace common sense if they want to have a chance at future victories.
Keeping the Democratic Party divided risks allowing more socialist to enter into the halls of government. It’s not inconceivable that a socialist could be president in some future election if we do not quash their movement now. Beating Warren in 2020 is the best way to do that.
Some would argue that rooting for Warren could backfire just like Democrats rooting for candidate-Trump in 2016 to get the GOP nomination backfired on them. To this, I would argue two points. First, it’s very difficult to imagine Warren having what it takes to defeat President Trump even with a loyal mainstream media behind her. Second, our fight for conservatism means we should want to battle the most progressive candidate head-to-head. If we live in a country that can be duped into embracing socialism, then we have bigger problems than the 2020 election. This is an opportunity to demonstrate America is opposed to the failed Marxist principles.
An Elizabeth Warren nomination would help President Trump win a second term while stalling the ascension of socialism in America in one fell swoop. As she rises in the polls, conservatives should rejoice. She’s the candidate we want to defeat.
