I don’t care if it’s plastic or biodegradable. Donald Trump firing John Bolton as National Security Advisor means no more sipping the Trump Kool-Aid for yours truly.
No more benefit of the doubt will be afforded. I abstained in 2016 and I will do so again in 2020. On this 18th commemoration of 9/11, Mr. Trump just lost my vote once and for all.
All the Republicans In Name Only and Progressives Posing as Conservatives inside the DC Beltway are as much of a dire threat to the United States of America as is the Democrat-Socialist Party. Real conservatives fare better when out of power rather than under pseudo-conservatives.
We tend to stand together to oppose an Obama whereas all too many among us totally crumble and lose their gumption under a Trump. So, pick your poison or just wait and see which progressive poison others prefer.
The Trump Kool-Aid has been diluted just enough to numb the senses without bringing on absolute rigor mortis. But at some stage, its toxicity will end all pretense that the Republican Party is still a living, breathing organism. From the first dose in Cleveland three years ago, the post-conservative GOP reached critical mass today.
I do not expect that John Bolton read my recent words and they would not have been necessary anyway because he is a man of honesty, decency, principle, valor and competence.
But what I said, unfortunately has come true all too quickly:
“If there’s any hope at all, it rests upon knowledgeable people like National Security Advisor John Bolton. Telling the boss the truth will undoubtedly get him fired.”
“Perhaps Bolton and even Pence need to bail out.”
“As long as you keep kissing his okole, you are part of the problem and not part of the solution. I fully understand this is going to offend the entire Republican Establishment. Good, that is intentional.”
“If those of you who have Donald Trump’s ear refuse to be honest policy advisors of integrity, history will not be kind to you. If that means anything to you, you will do the right thing and speak the truth even if he cans you for it. If not, you be the one to explain it to your grandchildren.”
I don’t know anything about Mr. Bolton’s family situation, but if he has grandchildren, they can surely be proud of their granddad today and tomorrow and always. While Mr. Trump was busy trying to seduce other men’s wives, patriots kept their zippers zipped and became subject matter experts in national security and foreign policy.
The quintessential flip-flop of the entire Trump Administration lies in the selection of Flynn, McMaster and Bolton, one after the other, as National Security Advisor. He may as well just appoint Ivanka next and forego all pretense that anything matters to him more than nepotism and loyalty.
At this point, prospects do not look good for next year’s election. Capable men and women with more brains in their little finger than Donald Trump has under his comb-over, are just Biden their time, pun intended, hoping he can stave off whoever becomes the Democrat nominee. Maybe he will and perhaps he will not.
But today, I will commence looking from the vantage point of the referee in the center of the ring in the heavyweight title fight rather than that of the partisan minions in either corner. There will be no quick count, but when the champ is down for the 10 count, he has to surrender the belt.
Perhaps an old sparring partner or trainer understood and exploited his vulnerabilities. That person should have begun their own training camp today.
