If you’re wondering why news reports about the alleged west Texas mass shooter have died down much faster than previous mass shootings, it’s because the details that are emerging do not jibe with the gun control agenda being promoted by mainstream media. The more we learn about the alleged gunman and how he acquired the firearm, the clearer it becomes that no measure of gun control would have prevented this mass shooting.
First, it was revealed that the suspect had failed a background check. This was instantly pounced on by many Democrats who believed that meant it was a legal private sale in which background checks aren’t required. This would mean their universal background checks would have done the trick.
The response from the left was predictable. They thought they had the silver bullet (pun intended) to counter naysayers among gun owners’ rights activists who say universal background checks would be ineffective in the vast majority of cases where criminals get their hands on firearms and use them to commit crimes.
Yay for gun control…
…but…
A new report indicates police believe the gun was illegally manufactured and sold by a man in Lubbock, Texas. If this turns out to be true, and it’s unlikely police would be raiding the suspect’s home if they didn’t have a solid case to build upon, then that means no gun control measure would have stopped it. Not universal background checks. Not “assault weapons” bans. Not mandatory buybacks. Nothing.
As Texas Governor Greg Abbott noted, gun control legislation is designed to harm lawful gun owners, not criminals who find ways to circumvent the system. That’s the nature of criminals, after all.
Law-enforcement say they identified a person they suspect illegally manufactured & sold the rifle used in the Odessa shooting.
We want to keep guns out of hands of criminals who break the law…
…without infringing on the rights of law-abiding Texans.https://t.co/zQfqjh2tfh

As gun rights pundit Dana Loesch noted, the system worked as it was supposed to work. The suspect was denied gun ownership through legal means by not passing a background check. So, he went onto the black market where laws are meaningless and acquired a firearm illegally. This case doesn’t help the gun control cause. It reiterates what 2nd Amendment defenders already know.
Exactly. The background check system WORKED & the murderer was denied. Someone committing a felony by illegally manufacturing, selling firearms on the black market doesn’t care how much you “expand” BGCs — he’s still doing business. It’s the law-abiding who are punished. https://t.co/voMNNkqsqS

Every proposed gun control measure would have harmed law abiding American gun owners. But the west Texas shooter, who allegedly purchased an illegally manufactured firearm, would not have been hampered by the left’s “solutions.”
