CNN host Don Lemon has been sued for sexual assault by a man claiming he was sexually assaulted in Murf’s Bar in July last year. This news follows controversy surrounding another CNN host when Chris Cuomo verbally assaulted someone for calling him “Fredo.”
In the #MeToo era, accusations like these are supposed to be treated as authentic until proven otherwise. But CNN is already attempting to assassinate the character of the man suing their host, saying in a statement he had motive to go after them.
“The plaintiff in this lawsuit has previously displayed a pattern of contempt for CNN on his social media accounts,” a CNN spokesperson told Mediaite in a statement. “This claim follows his unsuccessful threats and demands for an exorbitant amount of money from Don Lemon. Don categorically denies these claims and this matter does not merit any further comment at this time.”
Dustin Hice claims that Lemon attacked him at Sag Harbor dive bar Murf’s in July 2018. Hice, who was working as a bartender at another Hamptons watering hole at the time, said he approached Lemon at the bar one night after recognizing him. Hice “tried to get Mr. Lemon’s attention and offered to buy Mr. Lemon a drink,” the suit claims. The CNN host declined, stating he was “just trying to have a good time.”
Later in the night, the suit says, Lemon approached Hice.
“Mr. Lemon, who was wearing a pair of shorts, sandals, and a t-shirt, put his hand down the front of his own shorts, and vigorously rubbed his genitalia, removed his hand and shoved his index and middle fingers in Plaintiff’s moustache and under Plaintiff’s nose,” the suit says.
Lemon has had a history of controversy surrounding his views ever since before the 2016 election. Openly gay, the CNN host has been among the most unhinged of legacy media’s journalists when it comes to President Trump. He has been a walking contradiction, defending efforts by Democrats while calling out the same things when done by Republicans. His extremely biased leanings is one of the reasons CNN is doing so poorly. People want the news, not the biased musings of someone claiming to be reporting it.
But this lawsuit came out of nowhere. One thing Lemon has not been associated with in his time in the public light is being a sexual predator. CNN’s claims that that the plaintiff is out to get them may be legitimate. We shouldn’t allow our distaste for the journalist and his network drive us down the same path that progressives have gone down in regards to no due process for accused sexual predators.
Despite the tenets of #MeToo, I’m not inclined to give much credence to the accusation. But the court will decide if it holds any merit. If it turns out to be true, Lemon’s future with CNN is almost certainly over.
