If you needed further evidence (you don’t) that many on the left have gone completely unhinged (they have), one needs only to look to Senator Patty Murray (D-WA). In her efforts to promote the Democrats’ gun control legislation, she clowned herself with a talking point that few, even on the left, would willfully adopt when sober.
Mental health issues don't cause mass shootings, guns do. Vilifying people who have a mental illness won't help end mass shootings. The commonsense gun reform legislation that's already passed the House will. @senatemajldr, let's have a vote.

Even most Democrats are willing to acknowledge that the wrong people wielding firearms are the root cause of mass shootings. If it were the guns themselves that “cause” mass shootings, as Murray contends, then we’d all be in a whole lot bigger trouble. Considering there are hundreds of millions of firearms currently in circulation, most owned by law abiding citizens, the current rash of mass shootings would be nothing compared to the unfathomable violence caused by these evil inanimate objects.
As Jessie Jane Duff, Campaign Advisory Board Member for Women for Trump, noted on Twitter, granting the characteristic of cause to firearms is something one might expect to read about in The Onion.
Apparently, guns are free thinking, self-firing, and cause mass shootings. They aren't caused by crazed individuals seeking to cause carnage.
No, this is not The Onion.

Mental health is demonstrably the root cause for all mass shootings because it takes someone who is detached from reality to undertake these heinous acts. The assailants are suicidal as they realize the majority of the time the gunman is killed in the act. They demonstrate a psychopathic disregard for human life and the lack of acceptance for societal norms of sociopaths. Many, including the three alleged recent shooters in Gilroy, El Paso, and Dayton, were at one time medicated to deal with known issues.
Those who are calling to address mental health problems in America because of gun violence are not vilifying people who have mental illness, as Murray contends. It is a demonstration of both compassion and self-protection that Americans want to address the issues that are clearly doing harm to the mentally ill as well as anyone the very small number of mass shooters would turn into their victims.
Murray is simply playing politics, trying to take advantage of a politically charged situation to benefit her party and to advance her agenda. She, as many Democrats are doing lately, is trying to divide us over emotions.
Conservatives on Twitter responded:
This ignores the documented mental instability of numerous mass murderers. It’s also straw man, as no one is conflating the two — in fact, there is deliberate care to avoid stigmatizing anyone. How do you criminalize private transfers without a national registry, Senator? https://t.co/bmdUVYUp7f

A sitting US senator @PattyMurray has shown mental illness. Like a plot of a @StephenKing novel – where objects take control of humans, she believes that guns take control of human hosts & force them to murder – this is nuts, has never happened yet she apparently believe this 😂 https://t.co/DSj30c6hZ8

Vilifying people who have mental illness won't end mass shootings. But, vilifying law abiding gun owners will end mass shootings, or something.
Guns don't cause mass shootings, PEOPLE do. (especially people that are mentally ill) https://t.co/B3FZCtNMjG

Undeniably untrue. Not even debatable. Your keyboard didn't produce that tweet, @PattyMurray – you manipulated the keys to get it to do what you – you, not the keyboard – wanted it to do. Without it, you'd find another keyboard to use, if you felt strongly about it. https://t.co/3NfNYqbhQW
