Temporary Protected Status is granted to immigrants from countries that are experiencing devastating conditions such as war or natural disaster. It’s a loophole many have used in the past, including El Salvador in which TPS status was granted over a decade ago. But just because people come from devastated countries doesn’t mean they’ll be upstanding temporary residents in America. They are required to apply for extensions or leave the country when their TPS expires.
Andres Fuentes-Castro from El Salvadore was granted TPS, and even used it to evade arrest in 2008. But it expired in 2010 and he remained in the country illegally. Now, he’s been arrested and accused of raping at least three children between 2014-2016.
Accused Rapist Arrested, Identified as Illegal Alien
Andres Fuentes-Castro, an El Salvadoran citizen, was encountered by U.S. Border Patrol-New Orleans Sector agents in 2007 during a traffic stop in Baton Rouge, but was released due to his protective status. Castro was again arrested July 18 by the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, of which a NOLA Sector agent is a member, on three counts of 1st Degree Rape against a child between 2014 and 2016. Shortly after his arrest, it was found that Castro had failed to update his Temporary Protected Status, nor had he returned to his home country once his status expired in 2010.
“The U.S. Marshal’s arrest of this illegal alien for the rape of a child showcases the ongoing superlative work done by the New Orleans Marshals in removing a dangerous criminal from our community,” said U.S. Border Patrol New Orleans Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gregory Bovino.
If proven guilty, he will spend his sentence in jail before being deported.
But all of this hits hard against the narrative the Democrats have been pushing that we need to be more compassionate towards illegal immigrants. Time after time, we hear that the people who “deserve” our compassion are taking advantage of it. They’re preying on American citizens, including children. Just yesterday, we reported on a convicted child rapist who was trying to reenter the country.
Democrats have a growing problem with their open borders agenda. As more illegal immigrants are allowed to stay in the country, heinous crimes continue to rise. This isn’t a thief or a minor criminal. He’s an alleged child rapist.
