HOW LIFE ACTUALLY PROGRESSES
“Don’t bite off more than you can chew.”
“Your eyes were bigger than your stomach.”
Good advice often given by parents to their children.
It is human nature to feel that if something is worth having, it’s worth having it all now. But as we mature, life teaches us the inescapable necessity of developing a lifestyle of deferred gratification.
You can’t be retired and have the time and the money to travel and do things that you really enjoy until you have worked hard and sacrificed for many years to earn that opportunity.
If you’re a modern day media zillionaire, you’re going to be too busy ruining other people’s lives to enjoy your own anyway.
THE WHOLE MEGILLAH
That’s an expression that my childhood classmates in West Los Angeles might have used from Yiddish. But for most people everywhere, it is an aspiration rather than a present reality.
Which brings us to the subject of how to approach the 2020 campaign here in Hawaii. All federal, state and municipal offices are firmly within the grasp of the Democrat one-party machine which has run Hawaii since statehood 60 years ago.
ONE STEP AT A TIME
A young child just learning how to walk must be taught this concept. Put one foot in front of the other. Slowly. Deliberately. With something nearby to grab onto if possible. Things come full circle, then as an elderly person, it’s handy to have a walker available to assist in getting about with a seat to use when needed.
However you apply this analogy to the GOP in the 50th state, as antiquated party or as one trying to experience rejuvenation, it will be necessary to calculate each step and take it at the proper time.
It is unrealistic to expect conservatives to be able, however superior our messaging, to take control of both chambers of the Hawaii state legislature and all four seats on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. We can dream about it and aspire to it all we want, but we shouldn’t put our eggs in that basket.
CHANGING OUR APPROACH
Since I retired four and a half years ago, I have had the opportunity to volunteer and assist several political campaigns, on both national and local levels.
In 2016, I was much involved in the presidential campaign of Ted Cruz, who came in a respectable second behind Donald Trump, who of course came nowhere close to winning Hawaii’s electoral votes in the general.
Then in 2018, I volunteered to help John Carroll in his primary campaign for Hawaii Governor. I then helped Ron Curtis in his Senatorial bid against Mazie.
Each of these candidates had the right message. Donald Trump had higher name recognition and celebrity status. National candidates never come to Hawaii to campaign so it won’t look like a boondoggle. So what happened happened.
I absolutely believe to this day that John Carroll would have been a more viable candidate against David Ige than was Andria Tupola. But I got into that campaign somewhat belatedly.
In a state controlled by liberal media, conservatives get differential coverage from that given their progressive opponents. Differential is the best euphemism I can find.
Ron Curtis had a superbly designed and articulated platform which he posted on his website. Democrats in Hawaii were embarrassed by Mazie’s antics in the Kavanaugh hearings. But of course, none of that translated into votes for her Republican opponent.
SO WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
Any politician or any political agenda that is tainted with being brought in from the mainland is destined to fail here in Hawaii. Yes, we have had Governors, Mayors and Legislators who were not locals. But at least since 1959, they tend to be in lockstep with the Democrat Party.
Democrats have falsely painted themselves as the party of the people and Republicans as being out of step with Hawaii traditions and lifestyle.
All you have to do is read the daily tweets from Senators Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz to see that the devil actually works for Donald Trump, not vice versa. Their claim to fame is to demonize all conservatives and to spout Democrat talking points.
We are not going to be able to change this defeatist culture which abandons all originality and incentive in order to perpetuate a corrupt political regime overnight. But there are several steps we can employ to make incremental improvements.
MEDIA
This first step has already been taken. Since early this year, I have been working closely with Editor-in-Chief JD Rucker of NOQ Report. You can see all my previous articles here.
Unlike 2018 when we had the conservative agenda suppressed by media outlets that were in the pocket of the Hawaii Democrat Party, we now have a well-established and reputable publisher who will faithfully report the truth without being under anybody’s thumb.
Additional authors are always being recruited. I would be very pleased if other conservatives here in Hawaii would avail yourselves of this opportunity to share your vision in writing with your family, neighbors, and friends as well as with perfect strangers in these islands who will determine the outcome of future elections.
MOVEMENT
American Conservative Movement has been formed and will become a crucial component of Hawaii campaigns from now on out. John Carroll has already joined forces with ACM in his non-partisan campaign to be our next Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu.
If you are a prospective conservative candidate for office in Hawaii, please complete the form at the end of this article. Then you will be included in all further information about ACM. Hawaii will be a very important aspect of ACM’s noteworthy impact on the national political landscape.
MESSAGE
The third part of the game-changing outreach to the voters of Hawaii will be to refine the content and the dissemination of our agenda for a reinvigorated and revitalized society. More about this will soon be forthcoming.
BEING RESULTS ORIENTED
This is not just an exercise to promote anybody’s own ego. Nobody involved is in this for any self-aggrandizement.
This is just a band of patriots who know a better way and want to lead our fellow citizens there.
Realistically, together we can help elect John Carroll as Honolulu Mayor to be our prototype showing how, working together in one accord, we can put our government back in good hands.
If the proper conservative candidate emerges to challenge Tulsi Gabbard for Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District while she spreads her limited talents way too thinly in her national campaign for President, turning over that seat in Congress is doable.
There is no Senatorial election next year here, but we can start preparing now to help Brian Schatz compete with a kiosk for a job at McDonald’s in 2022. Mazie will be up again in 2024.
But next year, even though we do not anticipate swinging the balance of power in Hawaii State Senate or House, we can absolutely increase our presence as conservatives in both.
Much of the problem in Hawaii is that we have no conservative or GOP standard-bearer as a role model for the community. We do absolutely want to support Sam Slom in reclaiming his State Senate seat. Reputable senior statesmen [or women] deserve our involvement and backing, whether or not we live within their district.

ACCESSIBILITY
The chances of getting a direct personal response from an elected politician in social media or anything more than a canned response or form letter via snail mail are generally between slim and none. We must and will change that immediately. Both candidates and incumbents owe it to their constituency to respect feedback and input and to engage them productively.
QUESTIONS FOR HAWAII DEMOCRATS
When did your political party leave you?
Do those 20 radicals standing on the national debate stage represent your family values?
Do you see viable solutions for matters near and dear to your own heart that impact you, your children and your grandchildren?
Have you felt that Hawaii Governor, Honolulu Mayor and members of both U.S. Congress and Hawaii State Legislature had your best interests at at heart?
Were they just career politicians who happened to have a [D] after their name?
Did you seriously look at the alternatives?
Would you vote for a conservative who holds the same values that you esteem and who will make our islands affordable for local families once again?
If not, why not?
If so, stay tuned because you’re going to hear a lot more in the near future that will change the course of events in Hawaii and benefit all of our lives!
HAWAII STATE MOTTO

We are currently forming the American Conservative Movement. If you are interested in learning more, we will be sending out information in a few weeks.
