Several months ago, Media Matters for America launched a full-on assault on social media and in concert with the media outlets who use their research to censor Fox News Host Tucker Carlson by intimidating advertisers on his program. Carlson’s sin? Appearing on the show of ‘shock jock’ Bubba the Love Sponge and saying some controversial things several years ago when he actually appeared on MSNBC.
As with most such campaigns, it worked for a bit. Then, key advertisers decided to return. But the woke scolds are getting serious. Or at least Judd Legum is:

To say the least, Judd’s characterizations are over the top given Carlson was appearing on a show deliberately constructed to shock people, much like Howard Stern’s. However, the continued drumbeat to negatively impact the financial viability is what is disturbing. And if you look a the product profile of Bayer, it makes perfect sense that they would want to advertise during Fox’s prime time programming to reach their target audience.
Bayer is a diversified global manufacturer. They make a whole lot more than aspirin. Their product areas include:
- Pharmaceuticals including oncology, cardiovascular, and radiological therapies
- Consumer health products such as cough and cold remedies, allergy medications and skin care
- Animal health products
- Crop science products such as high-value seeds, pest control products and large scale sustainable farming services
Call me crazy, but it seems to me that Fox News viewers probably use over the counter medications and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, animal health products and all products related to crop science are probably used more frequently in those vast red areas then they are in the blue dots on the coasts. Bayer is aiming at these target markets, not endorsing Carlson’s ideas.
Because politics is everything, we have already seen parallel markets emerge. Gillette got too woke, so smaller men’s care companies started advertising via live read on conservative podcasts. Coffee, custom suits, sheets, mattresses, and a whole host of others whose traditional competitors come under pressure to abandon conservative hosts or outlets have found market growth and loyal customers in these live read forums.
Is this going to happen across the entire consumer economy because of woke scolds like Judd? Because it is actually the goal of these little fascists to ensure those of us guilty of wrong think can’t access basic services like internet platforms, payment processors, credit cards, bank accounts, and phone services. We are already seeing this happen with Pay Pal and private banks punishing the gun industry. Even Salesforce, a business intelligence tool, has decided not to allow gun sellers to use their tool.
On the upside, some small, entrepreneurial firms have taken advantage of this ridiculousness in the culture to expand their market to a set of willing customers. On the downside, the right has no answer to the shutuppery. I am not a fan of boycotts. However, I think conservatives need to get smarter about where we spend our money. Should we really give our hard earned cash to companies that hate us? And shouldn’t we ensure those who want our business as evidenced by their marketing and support for our outlets receive it?
I for one will not be watching Stranger Things on Netflix. Or anything else thanks to their idiot CEO. I will not be going to see Guardians of the Galaxy 3 or the next Star Wars installment in theaters thanks to Disney’s moronic mouthpiece. Both have threatened to move production out of my state because of Georgia’s heartbeat bill, which is quite frankly none of their business. They don’t live here. Long ago I stopped using Dove products because of their woke ads. I also don’t buy Gillette products.
This country is divided near 50/50 in terms of political ideology. CEO’s need to understand they are risking half of their customer base if they keep caving to the mob. #GetWokeGoBroke was coined by independent journalist Tim Pool. I think it is time for conservatives to make it a reality by making deliberate choices.
