Update: Called it.
At a minimum, we have to be tolerant of different views on achieving the same goal: universal healthcare. That's why I responded to @aoc tweet with a debate offer. This isn't about slogans – people's lives are at stake. We need debates and the truth https://t.co/MlRGz6GtPf

Original Story:
In case there are those who are still waiting in hopeful anticipation that Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) will debate former Congressman and current Democratic candidate for the presidency John Delaney, let me spoil it for you. It won’t happen. She will not even acknowledge the challenge even though she instigated the debate in the first place by mocking Delaney on Twitter.
It all started with a jab after Delaney was booed for suggesting a path to universal healthcare that didn’t include the single-payer solution which would pull 150 million Americans off their current health coverage.
Since there’s so many people running for President (& not enough for Senate), instead of obsessing over who‘s a “frontrunner,” maybe we can start w some general eliminations.
This awful, untrue line got boo’ed for a full minute.
John Delaney, thank you but please sashay away ?? https://t.co/0RDOwbfcgv

Delaney responded by offering to debate her, even giving her the choice of venue.
Hey @AOC, we have the same goal, universal healthcare for everyone, we just have different ways of getting there. Healthcare is the #1 issue for voters, so let’s debate the way forward. Any show of your choosing. Healthcare is too important for tweets, we need real discussion. https://t.co/LDrWa9sZQD

24-hours and multiple Tweets later, it’s clear the freshman Congresswoman has no intention of actually getting into such a debate. Or, perhaps it’s more accurate to say her handlers at the Justice Democrats have no intention of letting her.
The chance of the @justicedems allowing @AOC to debate anyone is nil. They've seen what happens when she's allowed to go off script or offer her own thoughts on matters. Sorry @JohnDelaney but your party is lost to the radicals. https://t.co/Iyn76yJ0a1

The few times that Ocasio-Cortez has been allowed to speak to people without scripting by her handlers, it hasn’t gone well. She seems incapable of answering policy questions without talking points clearly memorized and laid out for her ahead of time. When forced to think on her feet, the results have been disastrous.
I’ve been ready for a while to abandon the notion that the Democratic Party may not be the new Socialist Party, but a conversation I had on Twitter with DailyCaller’s Eddie Zipperer gave me a hint of hope.
I was looking through the Harvard-Harris poll crosstabs yesterday and (it’s just one poll but) it showed the Dem party deeply divided in some pretty shocking ways. Particularly on immigration policy.

The 2020 election is still far off, but the writing seems to be on the wall that the Democrats are at a crossroad. Will they abandon common sense and follow AOC, or is there still a chance for sensibility with people like John Delaney to prevail?
Frankly, I don’t know.
