Ronald Sullivan represented Harvey Weinstein. As a result, he lost his Deanship at Harvard. Is it because students truly felt unsafe being around a man who provided an American with his right to due process or is because they saw an opportunity to lash out at someone and get them fired for doing their job? As attorney Alan Dershowitz said, they were using the “New McCarthyism.”
In many facets of life, including and especially the modern American higher education system, feelings are more important that truth. Desires supersede facts. Rights are only rights when they’re given to those with whom the students agree. That’s the state of our education system. And institutions like Harvard, once proud to be one of the premier universities for generating future leaders, has devolved to be an institution of snowflakes.
If any of these students want to challenge me on that notion, please feel free. I’ve never been one to call people snowflakes based on their beliefs, but I’m finally starting to see that it’s true. The thin-skinned, ever-offended young adults of the left truly feel entitled to have whatever view and wield whatever power they deem necessary to force opposing views away from them. Rather than debate the issues, they want to shield themselves from any ideas that might actually make them think. Is that what college is supposed to be about.
I weep for a nation that we may become if something isn’t done to truly educate those in our education system. This concept of New McCarthyism is real and prevalent in most universities across the country.
