When I’m wrong, I say I’m wrong. I was among those who were skeptical about the “We Build the Wall” GoFundMe project when it didn’t seem to be yielding the results we were promised. Well, the results we were promised are finally starting to show themselves and in spectacular fashion, I might add.
Over the weekend, just in time for its Memorial Day unveiling, the group that has raised $22 million so far was able to put up an impressive one-mile stretch of wall near El Paso. They did so on private property with permission of the owner, a major criteria for those of us who believe eminent domain should not be used to get the wall up.
If a mile doesn’t sound like much compared to the 2000 miles of border, keep in mind that individual hotspots for illegal immigrants, drug smugglers, gang members, and others who want to cross over illegally make up the bulk of our problem. They aren’t scattered along 2000 miles of border. They have known areas where they can cross and the stretch of land now covered by a wall was among the most used.
Now, they’ll have to find somewhere else to cross.
Brian Kolfage, the Air Force veteran and triple-amputee who started the GoFundMe campaign last December, has been struggling with negative press and impatient donors. I’m one of them. But I’ve had faith which is why I didn’t post anything negative in public. Now, I’m very thankful I didn’t.
Kolfage has been joined by Breitbart’s Steve Bannon and former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach to properly use the funds and get private wall construction going. Over the weekend, it went from possible scam to clear victory in my book. Here’s Kobach discussing it with The Blaze’s Eric Bolling.
On important takeaway from Kobach’s interview is the efficiency of private enterprise over governmental waste. DC says it takes about $20 million to build a mile of wall. We Build the Wall did it with $4 million.
My concern over my donation to We Build the Wall have thankfully been put to rest. I’m now proud to have helped Brian Kolfage and his team to demonstrate this nation is sovereign and willing to defend law and order.
