Matt Walsh: ‘Abortion is not a reproductive decision. Abortion is a parenting decision.’

On Monday, The Daily Wire‘s Matt Walsh suggested having a rally at the Planned Parenthood where Pennsylvania state representative Brian Sims filmed himself bullying pro-life women and children. By Friday, the rally was underway and unexpectedly drew in over 1000 people.

Not bad for such short notice.

In his fiery speech, Walsh made some extremely important points. My personal favorite is in the headline of this article, but the whole speech is worth watching.

“I think secondarily we are sending a message to bullies like Brian Sims and the message is very simple, that we will not be intimidated, we will not be silenced,” Walsh said. “If you try to shut us up we’re only gonna get louder and if you if you try to shame us we’re only going to stand taller and if you try to scare us we’re only gonna get bolder that’s the way this works.”

Hopefully, this is the beginning of a trend. There are always planned pro-life rallies in any given week across the nation, but responsive rallies like these that spring up because of the unhinged actions of pro-abortion advocates demonstrate the true strength of the movement.

“60 million. Keep that number seared into your conscience,” he continued. “60 million babies have been slaughtered since Roe v. Wade. That’s well over three thousand a day, 1.3 million a year.”

The scope and scale of the specter of abortion as it relates to American society can never be overstated. It’s a serious issue that has yielded one of the few single-policy voting blocks for Republicans. I don’t agree with much of what the GOP has done, and more importantly what they’ve failed to do despite their promises, but I can’t imagine voting anyone into office who does not understand or appreciate the sanctity of life.

“Nobody is suggesting that a woman should be forced to reproduce,” he said at a high point in his speech. “What we’re arguing is that nobody has the right to kill a human that has already been produced.”

This is the singular portion of the pro-life argument that needs to be reiterated over and over again until the stigma of the movement is removed. The left tries desperately to paint this as a reproductive rights issue. It is not. Reproductive rights pertain to a person’s actions as they pertain to reproduction. Once the baby is produced in the womb, that person’s rights to live must be protected.

Kudos to Matt Walsh for the important speech and to Lila Rose’s team at Live Action for doing a wonderful job on such short notice. If we can turn events like these into a trend, perhaps then we can get the traction the pro-life movement needs.
